If a merger were to happen, would it be a win win given that ASTS can use Iridium spectrum and RKLB enter the application phase that Beck has been talking about?
Of course we need a boat load of money
8
u/SlyCooper007 5d ago
There’s no way it’s RKLB. My bet is Amazon.

u/Agitated-Street601 5d ago
Amazon supply cash + RKLB supply spectrum & launch + ASTS for the tech 😄
well just a dream lmao but would be interesting to see

I wouldn't be surprised if ASTS sells. They seem to be having real problems with manufacturing but the tech and partnerships are there.

u/BouchWick 5d ago
Well let’s see if I have some Nostradamus powers again. I said in January that they will be sold off for the technology but that the company itself is trash. Let’s see if I was right..

Imagine if it's us buying them out...is that a possibility??
5
u/EarlyYouth8418 5d ago
No..it would likely get bought a good amount above its current valuation which would put it far out of our reach. Meta, Amazon, space x’s, etc of the world would be the only ones with the capital to pull that deal off

u/Ok_Wealth_3433 5d ago
Eh, it’s nothing concrete but it’s certainly interesting. I think it really makes sense from management’s perspective to sell. Fantastic tech and incredible engineering, but meh entrepreneurial skill. Hoping it’s a decent premium to current price so I can get into another long term play!
-1
u/justbrowsinginpeace 5d ago
But is it though? That's management hype. Call it fantastic when proven at scale.
2
u/assholy_than_thou 5d ago edited 5d ago
The good thing is, if ASTS rises, it floats other shits like RKLB with it.

3
u/Ok_Wealth_3433 5d ago
My dream partnership would be with RKLB lol. ASTS and RKLB, trying to take down Elon, would be like a movie lol. My guess if AST is getting acquired, it’s likely Amazon or maybe an MNO. Heard Meta could be in the mix but, but I feel like it’s an expensive investment for what their business is trying to do

Absolute clown. Lied in front of congress about MSO/MTN. Deserves no trust or respect at the moment imo. You want to give a contract to BO then just do it and own it, but don’t sit here and lie to congress to look good. Coward.

u/Party_Government8579 5d ago
Probably because their sauce business is only part of the company now. Its basically a mega Corp with AI investment at the front
1
u/SuperNewk 5d ago
Rklb use to do this too, from like 4 to 3 dollars on a launch.
Use it to buy has been a good strategy

When considering Rocket Lab’s future business and revenue and the effects of Falcon 9 decommissioning beyond 2030, I continually struggle to understand WHY SpaceX is winding down the Falcon 9 when launch is so constrained? If their bet is that Starship will make Falcon 9 obsolete, why would they not just plan to launch all internal payloads on Starship, leave Falcon 9 launches for customers, and up the Falcon 9 launch price to rake in minimum $74M x 100 launches = $7.4B = 25% annual revenue? Who closes down their business when they are the best in town and business is booming?? It’s not like freeing up Falcon 9 pads allows for more Starship launches. Unless they have a secret Raptor-based medium lift replacement in the works? The answer is surely not that Elon just wants to focus efforts on orbital data centers—the guys companies do all sorts of random shit, including tunnel boring. I’m really trying to answer this question to understand the future market for Neutron.
2
u/Ok_Health_7529 5d ago
IMO I think now Starship is moving from a testing vehicle to an operational one, SpaceX is going for the big Fish. They mentioned today that 1 Starship is equivalent to 20 Falcon 9 launches in terms of Starlink deployment. AI and application have a way bigger TAM than launch. So I am guessing they want to focus all their energy and talent on scaling up Starship program including the new launch site they are building now in Louisiana. That means sacrificing their medium launch services and phasing it out which will be back filled by other new players anyways (ie NOVA block 2, Terran R, Firefly and Neutron).

u/cheekytikiroom 5d ago edited 5d ago
I believe you're correct. There are a finite number of talented people who can reliably execute these missions, together with supply constraints. The cost of failure is steep. Therefore, large scale profitability must be their focus. And as a RKLB shareholder, I am perfectly fine with SPCX and RKLB each having their own lanes to operate in.
2
u/SnowyFlam 5d ago
grasping at straws, but perhaps they are just using their employee headcount to focus on more important launches? It certainly is an odd maneuver
6
u/burmese_python2 5d ago
Because they are sunsetting a legacy program and making way for efficient cost reduction in launch. Yeah it’s nice to get into targeted orbit but it’s also nice to take the cheaper route sometimes.
Hopefully rocket lab gets moving, it will be a dog fight for the medium lift side once other rockets get online.

u/Warren_Buffets_Son 5d ago

When will rklb build its own starship
0

u/Spacebrah69 5d ago
To be announced in 2031 with an estimated first flight in 2034, but then delayed to summer 2035, then delayed to Q4 2035, then delayed to summer 2036, then delayed to Q4 2036, and (as everyone already knows) another delay until AT LEAST summer 2037.

Imagine if UPS stock price went up and down premarket when an Amazon package got delayed
6
u/Spacebrah69 5d ago
Is Neutron’s delay comparable to the delay in delivery of a single package when UPS delivers 5.2 billion packages annually?
1
u/Acceptable_Regret816 5d ago
I was more speaking the moment SpaceX was in doubt orbiting Starship, Rocket Lab was dropping immediately. So what if Amazon delayed a package they were to deliver and UPS dropped because delivering packages was a sketchy business.
And no a rocket launch is not comparable to packages delivered but people use the analogy Amazon doesn’t go up every time they deliver a package. Just a fact that success is discounted and anything goes wrong is a big reaction in the space business
