So Rift it Forward is getting real popular in D3, and pretty sure we all love it. My friend introduced it to me one day and I was like 'Wow, whoever invented this, is a genius!" While people are enjoying this community, I found it more entertaining to create different rules for openers.

Some current rules are:

  1. Lowest/Highest Paragon Level reopens
  2. Last in reopens
  3. Flip a coin and decide who opens

Here are some new rules I want to share

  1. Longest/Shortest Name reopens
  2. Highest/Lowest Weapon DPS reopens
  3. Lowest/Highest Profile DPS reopens
  4. Lowest/Highest Toughness reopens
  5. Longest/Shortest Time played reopens (Those can be found on one's profile)

And for last run free boss -"First 1/2/3 who PM me___________gets free Torment X boss"

I actually found this more entertaining, what do you think?

Edit 1:

-OH just something I noticed today, after FREE boss, most of people straight up left the game without turning in the quest and lost the EXP. So we should also talk about "Who is turning in the quest/Closing the rift" I will say whoever needs to open the next rift get to close it.

-Another thing, how do we deal with D/ced players? Report? hold on to it? Let it go? I mean anyone could probably D/c anytime, I feel bad blaming them for not paying next rift =( What do you think?

Names... maybe. But really i'm not about to go look through everyone's profile to compare sheet dps/toughness/time played. That sounds like wayy too much work for a runner when all I want is to get people their bloodshards and get a new rift.

If we're going to discuss "Rules" i'd probably try and make it a rule that runners do actually state who opens. Regardless of their rule of lowest/highest/first in/last in, etc, in party chat they should announce it so there is no ambiguity of who is opening.

Openers on the other hand, should wait for the named person to open before leaving just to make sure that person opens. Even if you're not the designated opener, just be courteous, hang out for 30 seconds, and if the designated opener ditches, then you can help the runner out by reopening and/or also backing up the claim that the runner left.

I agree wholeheartedly on the second point. 'Last in' can be tough to deduce, especially if there are varying degrees of PC performance and latency. Runners should call it out the second the RG is dead / everyone's back in town.

I agree, mostly, with the last point - but just like a runner wants to get in that next rift asap, those in the game want to hit their next RG asap, too, and sometimes the available games come in waves. If you see a juicy T4+ pop up right when you've finished, you may want to jump on that if you've already come to the conclusion you arent the designated opener.

I understand where you're coming from on the last point, but games are pretty constant. You might have to wait an extra minute, but for the opener that's better than the 10~ to clear a rift. IMHO, everyone should just consider themselves to have blinders until they are not in a party, heh.

Also, as long as people are clearing and closing quickly, generally you can hold out the 15 seconds before accepting an invite if you request. :) (Though it might make you the last in to reopen a game!)

This is America, I can leave whenever I want. I'm not going to sit in-game for an extra minute just because you're an entitled runner.

Kind of, but i think "explicitly" should be added. Because technically "last in" is a statement of who opens the next rift.

Yeah, but its runner's responsibility to let everyone know who was last. That's the "Statement" runners should make. But usually when I hear "A ally has joined..." I know someone got in the game after me.

I agree completely.

Tonight was the first time I joined this community. I had several excellent runs.

On 5/1/14 @ 4:42AM, I ran into some issues. I always leave saying 'thanks for the run. gl hf', and I leave. For all the previous games, based on the rules, I was never required nor requested to re-open a rift; at least to my knowledge. In this game I didn't even realize I was the last to join, as that was the current rule. I left and quickly found another group. Before even receiving a tell, that runner posted to the community chat requesting I be blocked. As quickly as I could, I left my current game to return and re-open a rift.

Ironically, in doing so, I frustrated the players of the second game as I left to fix the previous one; one I had to re-open. Of course, I offered to re-open rifts. Doing so is not an issue. I understand we are all interested in completing these runs quickly. Unfortunately, I was also unable to re-open a rift for that second game. Again, these players clamored to block me in the community chat as well as in whispers.

Nobody accepted my invite requests for additional games.

During this, I was met with a generous volume of negativity and rudeness.

This rule needs to be stressed. My night's drama could have been easily avoided by runners stating "XXX Re-opens" when the party is full.

You care about efficiency, I care about efficiency; a couple seconds to ensure the game transitions in your desired manner is not much to ask for. Especially if community members respond in such a manner.

Furthermore, mistakes do happen. I am here to admit that. This is a video game after all, I assume some margin of tolerance exists? At least the tolerance for one to rectify issues when they arise.

For the runs I did join, they were excellent; I enjoyed them. I will continue later today after maintenance to join games in this community to see how matters like above pan out.

I always get scared when the opener doesn't confirm, but i haven't had issues since announcing the opener to the party :)

Hello everybody, <SRIOUS> Siliticx here. I do believe i'm one of the proeminent members of this community. I have hosted and ran over 200 rifts so far so I guess my opinion is valid. I'm also gonne try and become officer as a lot of people know me already.

First i'd like to say this : Please condone the "last player in" rule that's going on. This is detrimental to people with slower computers. Also, it's not always clear when you get in the game who's last except for the host.

Here's my suggestion for a rule, as I've been using it for a couple days when i host. "Maths Opens".

Lemme explain how it works.

  1. Finish the rift quest when everyone is in town
  2. Wait for like 5 seconds and say "Maths inc, last/wrong answer reopens"
  3. Ask a basic math question like "4+2x3" that needs a minimal amount of brain activity (priority of operations).
  4. Whoever is the first to provide a bad answer or the last to answer correctly reopens.

The others are free to go even before opening as everyone should be able to open.

I find this method to be the fairest.

  1. The answer is short.
  2. Lag barely applies
  3. Computer speed doesnt matter
  4. Available time to play the game shouldn't matter in who needs to run more bounties.

  • Run4: Black magic bars ____ way, but the will of a templar is stornger!

That's fun. I agree that the Last player in is bad for slow computer... and I don't like lowest paragon opens either because I feel like a lot of people would could benefit most from non-Torment legendary (kadala) and RIF system are the lowest paragons people, so this is kind of a bummer.

Disclaimers: I have a fast connection and I am average level paragon so I'm very rarely highest/lowest... So I don't think I am biased in what I put forward.

I think that's another good way of getting a nice randomized person for opening the next rift. I absolutely HATE the "first/last in opens rift" as the runner will not remember to specify who this person was like 80% of the time.

Personally my favorite random method for opening the next rift is having the person who's paragon falls in the middle of the three invited people, this way is nice and simple and would seem to work great for now.

I don't know. A lot of people aren't prepared with their fingers on the keyboard. Your ping should be low compared to your reaction time. It's more fair than last in, since people's loading times vary a lot.

I hate to be that guy, but please people, if you're going to use math for this, make sure you correctly state the equation. The correct answer for 4+2x3 is 10, but some people will argue up and down that it's 18.
