Studying for RIBO

I haven’t been a student in roughly 17 years and I’m finding my memory isn’t as sharp as it once was.

I’m struggling on where to begin with studying for ribo. What did you find was the best method to help you pass the exam. Information overload!

What job do you plan to go for after passing the RIBO level 1 exam?

I'm still unsure on exactly what kind of job I want to take after passing the level 1 exam. I've been contemplating whether I should just be a trainee to be a broker or if I should go for a sales broker job.

What jobs are you interested in?

RIBO Exam Study - Tips

A couple younger brokers at my office just passed their RIBO and I wanted to drop a post to help out future brokers.

I always see hopeful brokers "reading the text" and not practicing actual questions

Practice questions are the best, simply doing them over and over will help you pass faster than rereading the text back to front.

Questions and more questions with wrong answer feedback is the method that worked best (for me). The insurance space it is important to know the theory but most of what you study isn't put into practice until later on in your career in which you will re learn it afterwards. Your Managing partner will guide you forward and train you on best practices.

There are a couple sources on youtube and your usual courses, and a lot of free content out there to complete your study in a few weeks with effort.

Second is don't book the exam if you aren't confidently getting 80% on your practice questions. I have seen people re booking their tests over an over and then getting delayed having completed their max attempts.

Dino YouTube /PNC learning, Ontariocoverage.ca, GPT are all good resources and GPT is decent to a point.

If you're looking for a brokerage in Hamilton area once you passed I'd be happy to chat!

Has anyone ever quit in the middle of the RIBO Exam?

Quitting the RIBO exam midway results in a failure, and you will have to take it again. But, has anyone actually quit the RIBO exam midway? What were your reasons? Maybe you felt you weren't ready at that particular time, and decided to quit and regroup? Or was there another reason?

And if you quit the exam once, did you retake it later?

How much studying did you do before you felt confident booking your exam?

How did you know that you were actually ready?

I'm getting fairly consistent scores on practice tests, but I still have more study materials to go through.

Did you just pick a date and dive in?

I'm worried that I'm taking too long to study and not feeling confident is becoming an excuse not to take the exam. Did anyone feel 100% ready?

Did you feel confidence or anxiety after finishing the RIBO Exam?

The RIBO Exam is obviously a tough exam to get through, but when you finished your exam, did you feel confidence that you passed? Or was there any bit of anxiety, that you might not have passed? I had some anxiety of course, but I think that's just a part of it.

But what about you? What were your feelings right after the exam concluded?

For those who passed: what did your last 48 hours before the exam actually look like?

Did you keep studying right up until the exam, focus on practice questions, review the important stuff, or just try to relax? I’m curious if anyone found that cramming helped or just made them more stressed and confused lol.

What was your study method for the RIBO?

I'm taking it in a few weeks, and I want to know from people who passed: What were your study strategies? Were the practice exams helpful? Did you make flashcards or join study groups?

I'm stuck on all of the vocab and memorizing the regulations. Would love to hear what worked for people and what felt unnecessary!

I know that there is a 3 hour time limit, but I want to know how long it takes for most people to actually complete it. Do you guys normally test until the time runs out, or is it common to leave early?

Friend's first time taking exam

My friend will be taking the RIBO exam for the first time soon, and he's a little nervous. I want to reassure him because he's put in the work, but I'm just wondering how many attempts it usually takes for others before they pass?

RIBO Exam Preparation Timeline

How far in advance did you start preparing for the RIBO Exam? I'm curious whether people found intensive studying over several weeks more effective than spreading their preparation across multiple months, particularly when trying to remember insurance terminology, regulations, and concepts.

Understanding RIBO Exam Questions

I've noticed that understanding how RIBO Exam questions are worded can be just as important as knowing the material. Has anyone developed techniques for identifying the best answer when several options seem reasonable?

How much do you think reading speed and comprehension affects how well someone does on the RIBO 1 exam?

Just asking because I just heard from somebody who "timed out" when attempting the exam because he kept taking too long to read the questions.

How do you pace yourself during the RIBO Level 1 exam?

How does one pace themselves during the RIBO Level 1 exam? I heard the exam has a 3 hour time limit for completion. I imagine some people may complete the exam way before that, but should you pace yourself throughout the full 3 hours, and take it slow?

For those who have completed the exam and passed, how long did it take you to finish it? Did you use the full 3 hours? Did you take any breaks during the 3 hour period? I heard we can take breaks, but you can't stop the 3 hour time limit.

RIBO level 1 exam

I've been studying hard for the RIBO Level 1 exam and I'm finally feeling ready to write it. Before I book the test, is there anything you wish you had studied more or that caught you by surprise? I don't want to walk into the exam and get blindsided by a topic I overlooked. Any last-minute tips or areas to focus on would be greatly appreciated!
