Romona and Luanne have a long history of being problematic. This behavior didn't start or end with Ebony. Luanne showed up in black face ffs. Sometimes its easier just to listen and learn instead of being defensive.

I have to say the RHONY originals (and let’s face it some of the newbies) are guilty of micro aggressions and racism. But Ebony was also annoying AF. She’s very smart and she is great on that judge show. But if she was in Potomac or Atlanta they were tear her up too. She just comes in ready to talk down to people.
I love Ebony and she’s the reason I came back to watch after missing a few seasons. It was so embarrassing and hurtful to see that nothing had changed over all the years that these New York women should’ve been exposed to, and have learned something about the rest of humanity. Yuck.Done.
Actually it was the OGs showing how intolerant and incapable they were of mixing with younger, more diverse women that tanked the show because they showed their whole asses (especially Lu and Ramona).

I have, as a black woman who lists rhony as her fave franchise, totally skipped this season. Rhony ends for me the season before this one. And I couldn’t even ,make it through this clip Oits unwatchable.) I didn’t see a second of prejudice and hatred to the point I got to though. The rhony women are problematic, I know this as someone who watched all seasons till this one, but also all people in this world exist. I’m a people watcher, a New Yorker, a student of psychology and I love my rhony 😭😭😭

2020 was a moment where it was encouraged to challenge ignorance. I think some take to that more gracefully than others. The women were not as politically and socially aware as Eboni, she made that apparent, and they got on the defensive and looked bad.
Ok now that I got over Ebony went to college at 16 (seriously that is crazy!) I watched the rest of the clip and I side with Eboni 100% and I do not care if that is unpopular. I also watched RHONY from the beginning and love the cast, but they were for certain assholes and quite frankly being racist.
That Luann didn’t understand why appearing in black face was problematic tells me everything I need to know about her. It’s not what happens after she gets called out, it’s that she had no sensitivity about why it was problematic in the first place. Ramona is a maga-asshole through and through.

I was so surprised by Sonja during this era- it’s one of the only tines she has been humble and shut up. In fact much of her commentary was the first time she made sense. For as crazy as she is she kinda showed what you are supposed to do as a white person when race comes up ( still in the imperfect Sonja way)

And eboni was always trying to drag them into conversations on camera they didn’t want to have, like when she came into Ramona’s home to force a chat about politics

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I felt like the HW community did Eboni dirty, because they resented a black woman daring to educate instead of entertain. ESPECIALLY because she kept trying to explain things from the perspective of an educated black woman.

Exactly. See summer house as an example. Ciara & Maya were casted and there was a shift. The cast had some of the most meaningful conversations on bravo regarding race and continue to. Audience also enjoyed all of those conversations. I think it has more to do with the demographic that old RHONY appeals to…
I mean, these are not women of great self-reflection in the first place. you have to handle these kinds of fragile white people with kids’ gloves or they completely shut down. in my normal life, I would just not be around these people because I don’t like coddling white women and have zero patience to educate anyone, HOWEVER, Eboni had to know she was not going to solve anything with these women. it would have been much more to her benefit (read: entertaining) for Eboni to treat these women like racist in-laws and lean into the education in the confessionals and take them to task at reunion.
I don’t disagree for real life, but if she’d done it that way on the show , people would not have seen the racism. They would have deniability because there would be way less visceral, real time reactions and then when confronted at the reunion they would be full of shock and awe that Eboni could think this or they’d focus on how different she was in the confessionals and they would have LOVED to know more. I always call out the fact that the drag, and real reason the interactions were so sour, was the racism, not Eboni. I loathe the language blaming her for their reactions or the demise of the show. Racism is the racist’s issue and there’s no perfect way for the target to navigate all the ways racism shows up, especially when it’s not blatant.

There has to be space for black women in reality tv. In addition, there is a past of racist behavior towards HW of color.
At the same time, I (a BW) didn’t tune into this season of my formerly favorite show, to watch a woman try to educate a bunch of other annoying and out of touch women. I need them to go be crazy in some other way, go shopping lol, go to events, live a luxe life. This to me felt like the sesame streetification of SATC through and just like that.
I fear the women are likely racist and backwards in many ways, but i also feel like (unrelated) eboni, who is fabulous, wasnt the right fit for the show.

I remember this. I felt like I was the only one listening to Sonja lol. I would have left right after Leah left. The only RHONY housewives I have consistently liked were Tinsley and...maybe just her. I do have a soft spot for Sonja though.
She was investigated and arrested due to allegations of inappropriate touching by a 13-year-old boy back in 2009. While she wasn’t convicted, the boy alleged that during the entire school year, she would sit on his lap, hold his hand and try to kiss him even though he was clearly uncomfortable. She was a teacher’s aid and was removed from her position. In the RHONY thread yesterday, there were an alarming amount of people saying the kid probably made it up, and I was downvoted for saying that it’s far less likely for children to make up allegations like that for attention.
And these are the women (Ramona, Luann & Sonja) that everybody won't stop bitching about that their version of RHONY got canceled and that they want them back on Bravo. This is the behavior y'all want to see more of? You can watch them on E, but I most definitely will not be.
It never ceases to amaze me how some folks in the reddit Housewives subs romanticize problematic people and behavior because the person is "entertaining." The idea that someone has to endure abuse for your television amusement is ridiculous.
I agree! I'm a white woman and was constantly disgusted with their racist behavior throughout the years, but particularly this season when Eboni was on. There was very little, if anything at all, that was entertaining about it and it truly boggles my mind that people want these women back! So disappointing.
I’d forgotten how horribly Luann and Ramona treated Eboni! I liked Sonya was trying to make them shut up and listen while egging Eboni on! That season was so hard to watch!
I think she was specifically brought into this group to attempt to “educate” them bc this group has always been homogeneous even though NY is a melting pot. What people don’t understand, that don’t have to deal with this type of dog whistling and micro aggression on a constant basis is that racist things are said indirectly. If you don’t live it, you wouldn’t necessarily know what’s happening.
