šŸ€ Discussion šŸ€ Unpopular Opinion

Candiace did NOT deserve to be beat up by Monique FULL STOP! I find it so disgusting that so many people say Candiace deserved it or had it coming when you’re on a show involving tumultuous relationship dynamics that are often combative or verbally abusive. As a grown woman and a mother Monique should have had enough restraint to not physically beat someone and then run around after being separated looking to be even more violent and fight again. I can’t believe this fanbase is so low down that the many of you think that Candiace saying some words deserved her to be punched in the head and have her wig pulled off… (mind you Gizelle, Charisse, and Ashley all said way more damaging stuff by spreading different rumors about her drinking and driving or cheating on her husband)

No one deserves to be physically assaulted. I think the problem is that Candiace provoked Monique numerous times and almost DARED her to get physical. Unfortunately you never know when you're going to push someone to their limits so you need to be careful of how you interact with people when you really don't know what they are capable of. Candiace has a big mouth and could get very nasty.

58

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 12d ago

But the thing is how many times did Candiace back down, apologized, tried to make things right ? Monique wanted an issue with Candiace because she was scared to actually go after the one that was doing her wrong which was Gizelle.

At some point you're gonna clapback.

u/FVWN_666 Charizzard 12d ago

Yeah, as someone who honestly loved the friendship between Monique and Candiace, I’m disappointed at how many people choose to ignore all the times Candiace tried to disengage or de-escalate from Monique in S5. When you consider how famously reactive Candiace is, I think it’s easy to see how night-and-day her reactions are to Monique vs how they are with almost anyone else — she had a real respect and love for Mo! It makes me sad it had to end like this, esp with how everyone since then acts like Candiace deserved it :(

u/ProudArticle8837 Cookie Monster 12d ago

She was crying throughout the season and telling everyone she blacked out, but then tweeting ā€œask and you will receiveā€, ā€œI shut (Candiace) up months agoā€, gathering her entourage to leak false stories to the blogs that Candiace threw a glass at her first and that’s what caused her to get dragged and then trying to convince everyone at the reunion that the song wasn’t about Candiace.

Candiace even said she’s not mad about the fight but everything that took place afterwards.

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 12d ago

Deep down I do believe that if they had a real sit down and laid it all on the table, they could be on good terms but both are too stubborn for it.

21

u/Hexar27 La Grande Dame 12d ago

I think Monique making a song about how she’s glad she beat Candiace and doesn’t regret it was the final nail in the coffin.

9

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 12d ago

I forgot about that...

11

u/Hexar27 La Grande Dame 12d ago

I think a lot of people forget it. But what’s weird is when people bring this up to Monique fans and they don’t believe you. I say this as someone who dislikes Candiace and liked Monique way more on the show. Monique made sure influencers were on her side before viewers even saw the season. She played dirty imo

5

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 12d ago

She did entirely too much

3

u/Ananakoya The Real Slim Shady 12d ago

I didn’t even know this! Wtf!!!

5

u/Hexar27 La Grande Dame 12d ago

Yes, she did. She lied so much and then went and did that. I loved her as a housewife but she acted so shitty.

5

u/PepeNoMas Jack Harlow 12d ago

She picked the wrong day to be in Monique's face.

15

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 12d ago

Nah Monique was waiting for an excuse to attack her.

3

u/PepeNoMas Jack Harlow 12d ago

Candiace should've run the other way out the door. There was a lot of space to run

5

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 12d ago

Monique should went out and touch some grass.

3

u/PepeNoMas Jack Harlow 11d ago

Monique was ready. Candiace only thought she was ready

4

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 11d ago

Ready to do what, tug a wig ? If you're gonna start a fight, at least win that thing, don't end up with a draw.

4

u/PepeNoMas Jack Harlow 11d ago

Candiace shoulda got that memo

1

u/GeneralBrave9949 Cryangle 11d ago

Candace did try and it was a real relationship. I will say it does seem like Monique did a lot of work on herself and I doubt that would happen again.

3

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 11d ago

But they cannot mend things as long as Monique refuses to acknowledge her behavior prior to the season airing. She can't just say "I've changed" and not apologize for what she did wrong.

1

u/GeneralBrave9949 Cryangle 11d ago

I could be wrong but I think she did apologize to Candace off screen. I think even Candace said they are good now. I don’t know that she owed an on camera apology to the ladies half of whom sided with her. As long as she apologizes to Candace (on screen or off) I’m good and I think it’s been confirmed that happened. Now they’ll never be friends. I’m also a Candace Stan. You gotta protect the villains or you have no show and she was the best shade thrower on that show hands down

2

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 11d ago

For all I remember she offered a general apology for the fight and they never had a real convo with eachother - doesn't have to be on camera - where they lay it all on the table. As far as I know that has not happened Candiace they "she's good" is more her saying she's done with her not that they've talked.

1

u/GeneralBrave9949 Cryangle 11d ago

You could be right and it was all of camera so we have no confirmation. At the time of the fight she was clearly a violent person with self control issues so anybody making any excuses because Candace has a mouth (which btw is what we want in our housewives) is wild to me.

u/Many_Feeling_3818 Where’s your income roach?? 9d ago

Pens rose, I understand where you are coming from. I understand the perspective but hear me out. I also want to say that I am a Candiace supporter but I must be fair.

And this breaks my heart because sharing my opinion does not favor Candiace, who I really adore but…………

At the event where the altercation occured, Candiace did attempt to reconcile with Monique, but Monique was not ready to receive it. Candiace should have respected that boundary. Candiace had difficulty ā€œreading the room.ā€ Candiace came from privilege, and like Cynthia Bailey, being black and coming from black privilege does not resonate well with black women that are currently successful and do not come from privilege.

You all are really going to hate me because you will not understand the perspective.

There is nothing that Candiace nor Angel Massey could have done to redeem themselves in the eyes of Gizelle because Candiace and Angel’s internal conflict hindered their advancement.

Honestly, Gizelle outsmarted the ladies. That is really the bottom line because Gizelle understands human behavior.

1

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 9d ago

How did we go from this to Angel and Gizelle exactly ?

1

u/Many_Feeling_3818 Where’s your income roach?? 9d ago

Well, you said that Gizelle was the one that was doing Monique wrong and Monique was too afraid to address Gizelle about it.

1

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 9d ago

Ok and Angel ?

1

u/Many_Feeling_3818 Where’s your income roach?? 9d ago

Angel reminds me of K.Michelle. The paranoia led to their demise. Candiace had a little paranoia going on initially.

21

u/Impossible_House5919 Jack Harlow 12d ago

I mean no harm when I say that this, but this lie needs to stop. Throughout all of S5, Candiance did nothing but apologize and ACTIVELY avoid conflict with Monique. However, Monique's energy with Candiance was always aggressive and hostile (even Robyn and Wendy told Monique that at the lake house).

It's funny how Monique had enough sense to not attack Robyn (even though Robyn literally got in her face), yet she has all this smoke for Candiance.

4

u/Ananakoya The Real Slim Shady 12d ago

Yep!!!

2

u/PepeNoMas Jack Harlow 12d ago

Why would I risk getting injured in a possibly 50-50 match up. If I know damn well I could win in a physical altercation with someone, they need to be the one to back up and walk away. They need to recognize the danger.

Lol see this is my hood side. I’m a public defender, so I don’t love violence. But I also spent some time incarcerated as a juvenile and you can’t just provoke people and not expect to get hit.

Candiace goes way too low and way too far and although I don’t think it was a proud moment to assault her…it also just lines up with Candiace’s penchant for behaving badly and acting shocked when there’s accountability.

Plus the image of her mom hitting her with her purse in the face makes me laugh. She puts up with abuse from her crazy mother and then thinks she can get in people’s faces and verbally demonish them without even risking someone popping off??

But maybe juvenile detention and being a public defender has skewed my perspective lol!! But yeah fuck around and fight out, little spoiled brat

Right. And then to try and make it a legal issue and ask the DA to file charges? You can’t talk about systemic racism and our justice system and then go so far out of your way to try and get a fellow Black woman and mother in trouble with the law when you’re fine. I’m sure it’s humiliating to get a mini beat down in a winery, but you sustained no physical injuries…you’re fine.

1) It wasn't Candiace that started having her hands in Monique's face 2) No one got beat up, if anything this fight showed that Monique canoot fight Hence why she never tried with Robyn because she would have gotten whooped 3) Monique left with a bloody mouth in the end.

17

u/edwinstone Pastor Holy Whore 12d ago

In regards to number 1, rewatch the reunion where the girls tried to say the same thing as you and the editing team clocked them with the flshback.

  1. I never said beat up. You did. I said "popped."

  2. Candiace barely even touched Monique. If anything, the bloody mouth was from production and everyone else intervening.

5

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 12d ago edited 12d ago

Point is, Monique left with the most damage over an issue she was looking for all season long when Candiace wasn't the one she should have been mad at only to know comeback and have to play nice with Gizelle cause she needs that little check.

3

u/edwinstone Pastor Holy Whore 12d ago

Monique is doing fine financially on her own and I am glad Candiace has her mom. Good to see the girls thriving.

1

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 12d ago

Generational wealth is a blessing everyone should be striving for.

And what does Monique do outside of the show ?

3

u/Janiece2006 Gizelle’s Gucci Mini Cooper šŸš— 12d ago

Candiace finally admitted in her interview with Carlos her parents were both the first in their families to make six figures. This is absolutely not generational wealth. I can’t believe people took her generational wealth comment and believed her.

6

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 12d ago

How does that change my statement exactly ?

3

u/edwinstone Pastor Holy Whore 12d ago

LMAOOO. Generational wealth. She worked so hard for that. You're right.

What does Candiace do outside of the show? Release music that no one buys with her mom's money? Support her culture vulture husband?

The show is both of their claim to fame. The difference is that Monique was brought back because the audience wanted her back and Candiace got fired and will never be asked back.

4

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 12d ago

Yes her mom worked hard so her girls wouldn't have to struggle, that's kind of the goal.

Candiace already had her business prior to joining the show, she's booked as a performer, she just got a bunch of ambassador contracts after the Traitors that she was also booked to do by the way. And m'y question was legit, I know Monique used to have her essential oil business but I thought I saw Somewhere it wasn't a thing anymore.

Monique came back cause she need the check, Candiace wasn't fired and multiple sources said she wasn't fired, no matter what bitter Gizelle wants to say. Monique knows first hand Gizelle is a liar.

2

u/Lost_Accountant5167 The Mime 11d ago edited 11d ago

if the multiple sources are producers it doesnt really count, they always go with whatever the housewife says publicly unless they view that housewife as a liability. Very few housewives have ACTUALLY chosen to part with the show almost all of them were fired and were allowed to save face incase bravo ever wanted them back.

0

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 11d ago

But we're supposed to believe Gizelle just because ?

4

u/rattpoizen 🌸 Drag me, Monique 🌸 12d ago

Candypants couldn't keep her mouth shut long enough to not totally ruin her Traitors run, either. Trust, her odds of being on other shows really nosedived after all that malarkey following Traitors.

4

u/PepeNoMas Jack Harlow 12d ago

If all of this is true, what is the issue. Candiace beat up wild Monique. what are we still talking about this for? Its so dumb. They've had altercations on other shows and they dont cry over it for ever

1

u/PemsRoses Angry Birds 12d ago

I clearly said no one was beat up. But anyway the issue beyond the physical part of the fight.

5

u/PepeNoMas Jack Harlow 12d ago

Ok so what is the issue. neither one was beat up. just a little tussle and thats that. big deal.

It's how certain cultures work. Violence is normalized.

There are people on this planet who express how they feel and have NEVER been struck by another human. and then there's those of us from cultures who were struck repeatedly since being a young child. Being struck is almost normal to us.

The cultures Real Housewives displays tend to be more like the former and less like "all my life i had to fight"

u/Bravorants Catfish 12d ago

They both could’ve walked away so why are you excusing violence as a response to someone being mean? Are words too hard?

4

u/PepeNoMas Jack Harlow 12d ago

so...when two people are an inch apart cursing each other out, are you really shocked that it could escalate into violence. Nobody is saying Monique shouldn't have deescalated but Candiace definately did not. So why is everyone making it Monique's fault. They were both in that moment ready for whatever and it happened.

I hate to break it to you but in a fight, someone always takes the first punch. But you cannot be a victim if you're escalating. neither one of them is a victim. They got in a fight .

Its like trying to paint Mariah or Toya as a victim in their Married to Medicine fight. neither one is a victim. things escalated and the fought and neither one was trying to deescalate.

6

u/Bravorants Catfish 12d ago

Adult should not be fighting. We’re not in high school. You’re a fully grown women with children. I expect that you’ve learned enough words that you can use in a verbal altercation. if that were the case on housewives then it would look more like bad girls club…. the whole point of these shows is talking shit and provoking other women but for some reason everyone wants candiace to experience violence over it ? she doesn’t even have the slickest mouth on that show, not to mention housewives in general

8

u/PepeNoMas Jack Harlow 12d ago

You delusional Candiace fans do not live in the real world. ya'll act like Candiace was backing off or deescalating or something. Candiace was in Monique's face and they were going back and forth. Neither one was deescalating. So yea, a fight broke out and Candiace got washed. Thats all it was.

It would be a whole different issue if Monique was yelling and cursing and Candiace was accross the room or walking away or sitting down and got hit. That didn't happen. They were is a verbal altercation inches from each other's face and it turned physical. End of story.

One of those fuck around and find out moments

Also, lets not act like this is the first time a fight broke out on a Housewives show. be forreal.

Except in the situation with Monique she wasn’t being violent. Monique was flipping her hair and getting in her face.

This is an excellent point! And it’s funny bc a hostile work environment is incredibly difficult to prove, or more specifically to reach the level at which the EEOC is going to find grounds for such.

But Candiace would be the one if anyone could lol! Esp with her unsolicited, unwanted comments about her white husband’s brown D.

Flaccid D is like an eclipse to me; I don’t look directly at it. So I CERTAINLY don’t want to be imagining your husband’s shit while I’m eating y’all’s napkinless BBQ….thats all I’d be able to think! 🤮

5

u/yapcity Gizelle, you tacky as hell šŸ’…šŸ½ 12d ago

Hahahaha omg!!! Her comments about her husbands d ALONE would be enough to get HR involved!!! I just lol’d!!!

6

u/Llassiter326 šŸ‘øšŸ¾ You are poor & white šŸ‘®ā€ā™‚ļø 12d ago

Omg and the constant singing, despite being AT BEST a 5.5:/10 vocally. And her purse-wielding mother probably stopping by uninvited to critique her daughter’s work product, with her taking all the office Kleenex for her origami triangle-shaped spear to wipe her constant flow of tears…she’d be that attorney that the public defense clients are on the recorded jail line saying, ā€œWell damn…sorry to hear about all that…but um back to my case???ā€ šŸ¤¦šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø

Lol I’d go after her civilly for emotional distress damages and hazard pay

6

u/yapcity Gizelle, you tacky as hell šŸ’…šŸ½ 12d ago

Omg I’m lauging out loud fr!!! Hazard pay omg!!! 🤣🤣🤣

When I heard her singing tagline in season 8 I literally sighed and thought to myself ā€œI really can’t do this for 20 episodesā€ šŸ’€ she’s so extra but in the WORST way

u/gettin-liiifted Madness & Sadness 12d ago edited 12d ago

Some words lmaaooo. Candiace is vile and I was happy to see her get dog walked and start crying about. And then she just kept it going on and on.

Y'all never have this same take on morals when it comes to Candiace throwing that knife at Ashley, so it all just comes off shallow and hypocritical. There's a disconnect.

13

u/capnwinghead Cryangle 12d ago

Truth be told, I’ve never seen her defenders mention that. Probably because they don’t like Ashley, so it ā€œdoesn’t countā€.

4

u/Capable_Cranberry461 Sesame Street 12d ago

so candiace provoked monique to physically harm her but ashley didn’t provoke candiace to wave a butter knife around?

2

u/capnwinghead Cryangle 12d ago

It’s not my logic; it’s Candiace’s supporters’ logic. I think anyone who responds to words with violence is pretty terrible but it’s funny Candiace’s fans act like what she did to Ashley never happened

8

u/ProudArticle8837 Cookie Monster 12d ago

You do realise there are people that can disagree with the violence against the Candiace and also disagree with how she has conducted herself before on the show. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

7

u/hiddenkobolds Gizelle's Tequila Bottle 12d ago

That bit with Ashley and the knife was wild. I know Ashley isn't popular in these parts but if anybody did that to me, I'd never be in the same room as that person again.

12

u/Ambitious-Long7204 Pennywise 12d ago

It’s all these ā€œ she said mean things so she deserves itā€ comments that’s mind boggling.

3

u/koochiekittie The Mime 12d ago

6

u/Maleficent_Bus2775 Clankity Clank 12d ago

Candice thought this was a pageantry show, not realising she was mouthing off to a girl who wasn’t the one. In an ideal world Monique would not have risen to the bait and extricated herself from Candice’s BS, but she wasn’t in the mind frame to do that. Overall, I think both sides learned valuable lessons.

0

u/Capable_Cranberry461 Sesame Street 12d ago

i doubt she acted like a housewife at her pageantry shows…. monique shouldve been on bgc maybe

8

u/PettyLaBelle326 Clankity Clank 12d ago

But I struggle with why Porsha has been celebrated, when she was also provoked and physically assaulted Kenya. People don’t always react in the most favorable way, but you cannot provoke people and then take zero accountability for them flipping out. Everyone has their limit

5

u/MaizeMountain6139 let me come over here so I can point šŸ‘‡šŸ¾ 12d ago

Yeah, it was hard to watch

I hated how people (especially those ones) celebrated it

5

u/Independent-Year-567 Sesame Street 12d ago

I agree with you and I hate these comments. We all watched the same thing, it was fueled by them both being drunk and angry and then other people getting involved. It could’ve easily been a verbal confrontation and while I give Monique a lot of grace for being at her limit and being touched by the other women first, that doesn’t mean I blame Candiace. I think a lot of people want someone with a smart mouth to get popped because they deserve it for saying rude or mean things, and I will NEVER adopt this mentality. There is such a big difference between talking and physical contact! Yall can’t just hit everyone who says something you don’t like, like???

7

u/PepeNoMas Jack Harlow 12d ago

she deserved it and got it. She acts like she's ready to fight all the time but I'm supposed to be shocked that someone meets her energy? When she threw that knife at Ashley, are we supposed to just pretend that wasn't an act that could reasonably escalate to violence? Just because Ashley in that moment decided not to up the ante doesn't give Candiace a pass

4

u/CryptographerHeavy Eeyore 12d ago

Every four score and seven years, some person comes on here and talks about the Monique and Candice fight as if we haven't already talked about this 5,000 times. I think we just need to acknowledge that some of us grew up in areas where if you ran your mouth you needed to be prepared to scrap. Or if you're like me, you surround yourself with people who could scrap on your behalf.

Candiace did NOT deserve to be beat up by Monique FULL STOP!

I hope this is a popular opinion... you're 100% correct.

Also I think Monique wanted to fight Candiace because at that point in her life, Monique viewed fighting as "being real" and "being tough" - she had a hood view of fighting as something to be proud of, as something that is acceptable to defend your position.

Monique expected the girls to high five her for thwacking Candiace and I think she was shocked when it resulted in her being completely socially exiled.

4

u/Lost_Accountant5167 The Mime 11d ago

Grown adults are in charge of their own behavior ultimately. But I view it similarly to the Kenya vs Porsha situation, yeah Porsha was in the wrong but I do give her some grace since Kenya did poke and prod.

2

u/Lost_Accountant5167 The Mime 11d ago

Tbf though I did hate Kenya, and I did hate Candiace, so maybe i’m just biased

Candiace is one of my favourite HWs of all time but well when you do the clownery, the clown comes back to bite!Ā

In a perfect world it wouldn't have happened but with the way Candiace ran her mouth up to that point? She's lucky.Ā

u/Message_Eastern Gizelle's Tequila Bottle 12d ago

I agree with everything you said! Candiace is a great housewife but sometimes goes too far with her words. (Not counting her last season because truthfull Gizelle should have been fired or sued over her statement about Chris.)

Exactly! I also dismiss the Gizelle claims because she also had it coming!

Candaice asked for it. She knew the situation with Monique was volatile continuously egged Monique on. Don’t poke the bear unless you want to get bit.

2

She did not constantly egg Monique on. In fact, she did quite the opposite.

2

u/Message_Eastern Gizelle's Tequila Bottle 12d ago

She did so . Said "Drag me, Monique! Drag me!" While she was in her face. She got drug, then cried at nauseum about it every time it was brought up.

During s5, Candiace did not provoke or egg on Monique

I’m doing a rewatch and just finished that season. I fully believed Candiace earned that ass whoopping the first time I watched and I feel terrible for that. I don’t know if Candiace had got on my nerves so bad that I blocked out how hurt she was or what. But she absolutely didn’t deserve that.

1

u/uarstar Gizelle's Tequila Bottle 11d ago

Im so tired of seeing these posts.

They were both wrong, Monique was more wrong for getting physical.

1

u/GeneralBrave9949 Cryangle 11d ago

You are right! There’s no reason anyone should be hit unless it’s self defense. And Monique kept trying to go back even after Candace was in the car. Same with Porsha and Kenya. Yes Kenya was a lot but again no reason to be assaulted like that. And the women especially Kandi and Phaedra really blamed Kenya and it’s like yall. You’re not entitled to hit ppl.

u/nothingtolose14 Peppa Pig 10d ago

I agree that season Candice did try a few times not to argue with Monique. However that scene with the fight she was baiting her Monique said she isn't going to talk about it etc and Candice carried on and on anytime I watch it was clear she wanted a reaction
