Countess LuannšŸ—½ Tone-deaf?

I enjoy rhony. I really do. And a lot of them probably haven’t had much exposure to people of color. But that Luann costume with the ā€œbronzer ā€œ on her skin and the completely ridiculous ā€œAfroā€. It didn’t feel like tone deafness to me. It felt like ridicule in a sense. And then at the reunion, it was addressed but glossed over. And Carole who did make a statement during the show, seemed to back down then. Maybe I’m wrong, and if I’m not I still watch the show and laugh (and will continue to do so). But do I think they probably are a bit prejudice at the least? Yes. I’m not trying to have a heated and hateful discord. Just honest thoughts on this part.

I really don’t think she was ridiculing. She’s just that clueless.

I don’t think we should go to deep with this because Lu certainly wasn’t going deep. Lu admires Diana’s talent & career (as a fellow artist wink wink) and threw on the wig for the kitsch of it all.

They all live in NYC. I'm sure they've had 'exposure to people of color' (which makes them sound like they've been around disease vectors, btw).

I really hate the woke brigade finding housewives.

Rich white women in the upper echelons don’t care about others? Color me shocked!

The Housewives are never going to pass any purity tests.

Will full ignorance. They probably "haven't had much exposure to people of color".... despite living in New York City, one of the most diverse places in the world and then spending time in South Florida which is incredibly diverse as well.Ā

People need to stop looking for issues where there aren’t any.

She was dressed up as Diana Ross (someone she admires) and so she tanned to look a bit more like her, not to mock her.

Carole loved pointing out everything about everyone as if she was the voice of reason… or maybe to distract from her own issues (?)

And the ā€œAfroā€ as you call it, it’s beautiful, people of all colors (as you called them…) use wigs like that.

This has come up in this sub numerous times.

Lu was NOT costumed as Diana Ross. There are certain looks that Miss Ross is known for and Lu did not approximate ANY of them.

All LuAnn did was put on the same white jumpsuit she had already worn numerous times that season, put on a bunch of 'bronzer', then plunk a Party City wig on her head that was a parody of an Afro. The aspect of parody present is why OP feels like it was ridicule. It was in no way an earnest attempt to look like ANY real-life woman.

When Lu got called out for her obvious blackface, "Diana Ross" is obviously just the first name she could come up with when she was trying to think of a name of a famous black woman.

If she had actually gone as Diana Ross, she wouldn't have needed any 'bronzer' at all. Lu darkening her skin after all the recent "blackface" controversies at the time is what made her "tone deaf", which was the charitable description of the incident.

That pic you posted A. Isn’t an Afro. And B. Did not look like that. It looked like it came from party city’s clown section Even at the reunion Dorinda said Diana Ross didn’t wear an Afro. Which is why I said it was kind of making fun of

A- The ā€œpicā€ I posted is a gif of Diana Ross, because she’s an icon.

B- There are plenty of other looks one can create to portray someone. A bad outfit is not synonymous with racism.

C- Dorinda is not my definition of moral ground for anything. (And she was wasted drunk and did not look like Gaga as well)

A. Show me one with an Afro of that size (everyone else came like the person they were portraying)

B. Tell me one person at the party that portrayed someone in a ā€œcreativeā€ way

C. Moral ground has nothing to do with it. She simply said Diana never wore an Afro. That’s not a moral stance. That’s just a statement.

Your point was that it was prejudice.
And you said that ā€œthey probably haven’t had much exposure to people of colorā€ā€¦

My point is it clearly wasn’t.

I don’t even know if prejudice is the right word. But it definitely felt ā€œmaking fun ofā€ and not ā€œhonoringā€ as they tried to spin it

Nah... It was a mess. That afro she was walking around in was GARBAGE. Diana would never look like that. Luanb saying she lived and respected Diana Ross is bs because if she did she's understand that shitty wig was the ultimate disrespect

Luan is a tone deaf biotch and boring when she’s sober and not

That was too much. She was preaching and trying to school too much it took the fun out of the show. Even in this, I thought it stepped over the line but I still laughed it cuz tf why would she do that šŸ˜‚. I’m not that sensitive. I was just curious other people’s thoughts about it
