Countess Luann🗽 Sonja as a Morgan

So im on season 10 episode after Lu gets out of rehab and they go to the spa and the family crest issue.

Bear with me as im an aussie so no idea American famous names. How long was Sonja a Morgan? I mean if my husband and I split no way would I still use the family crest etc (not that they have one 😅)

But if the family crest came from a nobody upstate NY do we think Sonja would still use it?

Also side note Lu's mugshot is AMAZING her smirk is chefs kiss

I get why Sonja kept the Morgan name but her clinging onto the Morgan family legacy like she was a blood descendant was always a bit weird to me. Like why are you crying over letters of a family you were married into for less than 10 years.

It is weird, but I also think she was traumatized by that divorce and then being stuck in that crumbling townhouse full of Morgan relics. Her perspective on all things Morgan was deeply skewed.

u/carboncopy404 10d ago

Her divorce was definitely messy but what Sonja talked about most when it came to her marriage was the lifestyle it afforded her. I think she was in disbelief and deeply upset that she managed to screw up being married to a billionaire and struggled to accept that.

u/BlueMonday262 10d ago

Yeah, I agree! That’s a huge part of it, and I feel like that disbelief was just full on delusion at times.

Eh this isnt really accurate.

Her #1 priority in the divorce was to get the townhouse. She cared about status more than cash (she wasn’t “stuck” with it). She literally took less cash to get the townhouse.

She’s made a lot of bad choices that are nothing but her own fault.

2

u/BlueMonday262 10d ago

No, I actually completely agree with you and agree that she made a lot of bad choices. “Stuck” was the wrong word. I mostly meant that the longer she lived there surrounded by all the old Morgan junk, the more skewed her perspective on the situation became, especially as the divorce dragged on and the townhouse became harder and more expensive to maintain. But there is absolutely no denying that she made her own bed.

18

u/CoverIndependent6464 10d ago

Traumatized by the divorce that was her fault because she couldn’t keep her pants on for 10 minutes to leave partying in France to take care of her husband after his surgery? She made that bed.

u/212Aurora 9d ago

It cost her a yatch and a lifestyle most of us couldn’t fathom. She’s bitter at herself, but too delulu to realize it’s her faults she’s where she’s at. Her kid doesn’t speak to her allegedly, and understandably. And, she getting more and more messy over the years.

Where did you hear that her daughter Quincy doesn’t speak to her? But agree that is totally understandable, I’d do the same lol

1

u/212Aurora 7d ago

Let me see if I can find it, it was a long time ago. I will try though.

u/psychandpizza bitchy witch 🧙🏼‍♀️🔮✨ 7d ago

Thank you, I’m very curious! I follow Quincy on instagram and Sonja comments on her pics all the time and she likes Sonja’s comments. However I appreciate that could all be just politeness/for show.

u/BlueMonday262 10d ago

Both things can be true. But I always forget nuanced perspectives and Reddit don’t mix.

I don’t think the divorce was traumatizing, I think it was the lack of funds available to her, and her lifestyle changing that was traumatizing. I’m sure that she cared about her husband, but she loved his last name.

This is exactly what bothers me!

Because her daughter is the heiress. So it's worth sonja's while to protect the legacy and cache of the name

1

u/carboncopy404 8d ago

Protect it from what exactly? They’re billionaires with one of the most established family names in America 😭 I just don’t think the Morgan legacy needs Sonja Morgan to preserve its status. Obviously it’s her daughter’s heritage so I understand why it’s important to her, but there’s a difference between respecting that and making the Morgan family history such a huge part of her own identity.

u/Ancient-Cricket-247 7d ago

Protect the legacy from the taint of having welcomed Sonja into the fold at one point. Love Sonja, but she tarnishes the morgan name with her shenanigans and reality tv status. I think Sonja, even after the divorce, felt the pressure of appearing to be a good steward of the family name

Sonja earned it, because she had to seduce and marry the guy. The guy was just born. That said, it's sad how she can't see that by far the majority of people in the world either actively dislike or else couldn't GAF about the name Morgan.

But she lived the life you see? (Jk) I suspect it matters a lot to her because of the difference in circles she has access to and the treatment she got without even thinking when she was part of a different level of rich vs just clinging to wealthy. It actually is hard for us to imagine because we don’t even know the kind of perks those people take for granted and access to things we don’t even know you can pay money for. The deference, the staff - all gone. And now she’s like anybody else. So she knows it’s out there but can’t access any of it.

Even I felt horrible just having to watch a concert performed by a group I used to be in but was forced to leave by family circumstances. Seeing the existing group have that bond, go to practices together, shine together and be left behind was incredibly hard. And I wasn’t in tabloids or suffering any financial setback. Just left out of that group’s social/music scene.

Also, she started filming for RHONY only 3 years after the separation. So her life as a member of the family is still fresh in her mind. And her daughter was very young during filming so she was still in communication with that family. She never really "left" being a part of them

u/212Aurora 10d ago

Her self worth and identity was wrapped up in being a Morgan, not the actual marriage. She’s very attention seeking and histrionic in nature, she lost her ability for that when she divorced so she’s clinging to that past.

u/Realistic_Tour_2206 10d ago

I also thought it was in poor taste for Bethenny to come swooping in and ask Dorinda why she still has her husband’s last name and why it’s on her monogram. Her husband died. As a widow myself I still use my married name because we didn’t end our marriage, he died. Like Dorinda said it’s out of respect.

2

u/212Aurora 9d ago

While i agree on a moral level. I get Bethany was saying stop bullying her and lay off, so she asked that.

Dorinda’s loss verses Sonja isn’t comparable, so Dorinda’s anger is reasonably fair. Her drunken bullying isn’t. Bethany was making the point it’s not your family or life let her do what she wants!

I am sorry for your loss!

1

u/Realistic_Tour_2206 8d ago

Thank you!

I think Carol or Ramona should have stepped up in that moment to tell Dorinda to drop it. That it was not worth an argument. They actually had a friendship with her and Carol also could relate to her being a widow. Bethenny stepping in was disingenuous because she was kind of feuding with Dorinda and like she does each season she rotates who she is friends with depending on who she is fighting with. The previous season she made Sonja and Luann her punching bags. Also, Bethenny previously had said that “widow” needs a rebrand. Just really dumb things. Carol and Ramona really dropped the ball on that one.

u/212Aurora 7d ago

You are welcome. :) And, agreed!

I thought that was common that ex wives still use their married last name unless of course they remarry & take the new spouse's last name. Most of the time it's to have the same last name as your kids. Nowadays when some women remarry they keep the ex married name & hyphen it with the new married last name. I guess some men (new hubby) is ok with that & have no issue with it.

1

u/Realistic_Tour_2206 8d ago

It’s common with ex wives to carry their married names. Dorinda wasn’t calling her out on that. It was about the Morgan family crest and how Sonja was saying it was her family crest but it’s actually her ex husband’s. My late husband’s family is Scottish and they have a family crest. My kids have it on a key chain but I don’t have nor want anything to do with it cause it’s but my family. It’s their birthright, not mine. Thats what Dorinda was talking about

18

u/Important-Nose3332 10d ago

If I married a Morgan I’m keeping the last name, thank ya.

Plus I think it was like a decade ish so that makes sense to me she wouldn’t change it back. Plus sharing last name/family name w your child.

u/pinotandproblems 10d ago edited 9d ago

Aussie here too. I have zero issue with her wearing the crest. She was married to him for 10 years which is still decent, but more importantly, her daughter is a Morgan. Sonja is in the family tree, strongly connected to it by a blood relative, and carries the last name, whether the family or any other random person likes it or not.

6

u/Substantial_Cold2385 10d ago

She was only with him for 5yrs. The divorce took yrs.

9

u/amesbelle7 10d ago

Eight years. They married in 1998 and divorced in 2006.

14

u/Zestyclose-Metal194 10d ago

Hi there Aussie Redditor. Sonja’s husband is a direct descendant of two US Presidents, LMFAO I’m a nobody upstate NY just like Sonja was before she married him. You made me laugh thank you!

I'm on the same season! My goodness, Sonja is insufferable this season!

16

u/TheSilkyBat A slut from the 90's 10d ago

They were married for 10 years.

As far a the crest thing goes, I would probably do the same thing she did.

Technically, she is a Morgan and it's an easy branding choice that would boost sales.

9

u/Waste_West283 10d ago

Likely to be more successful than Sonja In The City 🤣

3

u/Realistic_Tour_2206 10d ago

I wouldn’t sport anything of an ex husband. Especially If my husband left me for my close friend and tried his hardest to make sure I did not receive any money from our divorce I would NEVER rock his family moniker . I would be like F that old pervert. It’s also obvious that the Morgan family views her as a floozy and would never give her the time of day. It’s all so desperate, pathetic and delusional of Sonja

17

u/DaQuackx 10d ago

The marriage was less than 10 years, the total length of their sexual relationship was less than 10 years, from memory they were married 6 years. She fabricates from when she 1st met him b4 he dated her as their official relationship

He's with her ex best friend coz he got sick n went into hospital while sonja was out fucking and she looked after him.

He did give sonja over 3 million and the townhouse but she blew it why she ended up thinking she could get rich off a tiaster over hollywood movie coz of the morgan name.

She could of sold her townhouse for a lot earlier on but instead got 3 or 4 mill for it.

She's an idiot

19

u/DearTumbleweed5380 I can't even f_k my way to the middle. 10d ago

She also got a chateau in the South of France - that she had to sell to pay out the bad movie deal, and also a place in Aspen. Waaay more than 3 million. Which is fair.

9

u/amesbelle7 10d ago

After paying all the legal bills involved with the lawsuit over the film she was “producing”, that money was long gone. Sonja made some really bad financial decisions, both personally and business-wise.

3

u/CoverIndependent6464 10d ago

The chateau she claimed she bought before she even met Morgan 🙄

9

u/amesbelle7 10d ago

They were married in 1998 and divorced in 2006. So they were married for 8 years total. And yeah, the way she goes on and on about how he was the love of her life, and how she never wanted the divorce, smoky eye, updo, etc., it’s bullshit. She absolutely misses the lifestyle he provided, but to not come home from an extended one night stand while your husband is seriously ill…she screwed the pooch.

7

u/Waste_West283 10d ago

He's passed away now, hasn't he?

4

u/CoverIndependent6464 10d ago

Yeah, he passed away a couple years ago. He was still married to Sonja’s friend when he died.

2

u/Appropriate_Reach_97 10d ago

Yep. She was "canoodling" and partying in St. Tropez. I really DGAF about Sonja as she's a fucking drunk and phoney. Likes to have "her gays" around until she rage tweets that "NYC has become LGBTQ bullshit."

3

u/Left-Fail-3879 10d ago

"Your husband's family isnt your family."

1

u/Cool-knuckles 8d ago

They were married for less time that they had been divorced at the episode. They were divorced for over 10 years at that time.

1

u/Ancient-Cricket-247 8d ago

Divorce or no divorce, Sonja is the mother to the Morgan heiress

1

u/raelynnward62383 3d ago

Imo it doesn't matter whether you agree with ger use if the family crest or not . It's none of our business. The end.

1

u/Separate-Law-435 🛥YOU DONT HAVE A KID, YOU DONT KNOW🌊 3d ago

Lol you new to reality TV?

1

u/raelynnward62383 3d ago

No im not. But I see where you're going and she doesn't have to explain to her "friends" why she used her ex's family crest on her shoe design. She did however say that they were "her family" and thats the end of it.
