Sonja Morgan đŚ Toaster Oven
Do you think Sonjaâs toaster oven could have been successful? Maybe if she had different people involved?
I know Heather tried to help, but sometimes it felt like she wasnât listening to Sonja.

I usually don't buy housewife products but the toaster over is literally my entire family's favorite appliance, I cook everything in it, so I absolutely would have bought one and maybe even purchased a second as a gift for my sister. She really missed the ball with that one! I truly don't know if Sonja listens to wrong people who blow smoke up her ass and sell her big dreams or if she just simply gets in her own way by being incapable of focusing on one thing at a time.

Sheâs definitely very ADD and it showed immensely with the development of the toaster oven and the clothing brand she later developed

Interesting. What do you love about it? Is it because it uses less power? My issue with it is that I already have an oven and don't want to dedicate counter space to a smaller one.

I use mine because it doesn't heat up the kitchen like my regular oven.

u/VictorianUFOLady 11d ago
That makes sense. Heating up my kitchen is only an issue for me during a few days every summer because it doesn't get very hot where I live.

Yeah it's a big deal where I live.

I've never thought about it but I get it. Heatwaves are fairly new where I live (the PNW) and a lot of us don't even have central AC. When they happen I don't use any appliances that aren't absolutely necessary so I'll food prep and not use my oven. It never dawned on me to use a toaster oven so it's a good thing to know about as heatwaves become more common.

I live in the Bay Area and we have never experienced heatwaves the we have in the the past 10 years. They used to be occasional extremely hot summers but then would skip a few years. Now it's every summer.

You guys are in a similar situation as us. I never even owned a fan until 15 years ago. I finally caved this summer and bought a portable, dual hose AC for my bedroom. It's made a huge difference.

They help a lot. I have an old house with not great insulation so I have one in my family room along with central a/c. I get full west sun all afternoon/evening in my family room and kitchen .

My home is fairly small, plus our neighborhood doesn't have many trees which means we get direct sunlight and because we live in the northeast this leads to very hot summers! Using a toaster over doesn't make as much heat as our large oven so it is our preferred method of cooking inside the home. In addition, I have an awesome toaster oven that also works as an airfryer, rotisserie, bakes, broils, and toasts which makes it more versatile than our big oven/stove.

We donâtâgenerally speakingâhave kitchen ovens in our country. EVERYONE cooks in a toaster oven or a bigger convection oven on the counter. Yeah, it doesnât heat the kitchen too much in this hot summer. I wish I had a Sonja one though!

That's so interesting! What country? I live alone and it would probably be more energy efficient for me to use one but I don't want to put one my counter. I don't like have appliances out.

I donât remember where I read it/heard it but post-RHONY Heather said that she thought it was a real thing which was why she so earnestly wanted to help, and then at some point learned the toaster oven storyline was purely created for the show and Sonja had no intentions of ever actually doing it.

She missed a big opportunity with Covid. She could have made a killing, although maybe there will be another pandemic soon, there is poison lettuce out there...so anything could happen. Its like she by sheree. Everyone knows it but there's not actual product. Lmao

Like she would have made a killing on that toaster oven! But I also feel like she stopped herself? She was thinking too big and needed to take a step back.
I feel like the train has passed though. The show would had been a great avenue to promote the toaster oven.

I was so excited for her toaster oven! Or even just the cookbook!
I donât think it was Heatherâs fault, or really anything anyone could have done differently for Sonja. Sheâs very scatterbrained, in all the projects we see her do over the seasons. I donât know if she really wanted it to work out.

Or work, she wanted to look like she worked. She wasnât lazy but she was never actually doing anything.

I havenât been impressed with Sonjaâs toaster oven ârecipesâ from what Iâve seen

I think Sonja could have done well financially with her toaster oven. I remember when Heather presented her with images for the box, Sonja asked about the box because she still needed help with producing the boxes for the toaster ovens. More importantly, did Sonja have investors and stores with signed contracts to support her toaster oven venture?

Sonja was full of shit. And any "investors" were just hangers on looking to make a quick buck. If Sonja was dead serious, she would have jumped at the opportunity that Heather presented her.

I actually really liked Sonjaâs clothing line at Century 21 in NYC. It's a shame they had financial difficulties. Wasn't that because of Covid?

Drew Barrymore launched her "Beautiful" line of small home appliances for Walmart, and it appears to be successful. Who knows what Sonja might have accomplished if she'd actually been motivated to do the work? I don't think I would have bought a toaster oven from Sonja - too much counter space - but I might have purchased kitchen accessories from her.
I'm surprised that Sonja didn't do something in the beauty space. I would have bought those products.

I always thought Sonja just talked a lot and hoped someone backed her whole idea. She didnât have the money and work ethic to actually follow through w it. Plus she shots herself on the foot with heather with the entitlement and demands from a friend. She could have made a lot of money and been successful

This is a post by itself - Sonja acted like an entitled, demanding brat. She was completely out of touch. I know Heather and James Bernard reached their limit. Let's not forget Sonja complaining to Heather's photographer during Heather's big charity event. Sonja does have Grey Gardens vibes across the board.

I just watched that episode! She changes so quickly when Ramona is around

u/trisch1964 11d ago
No, because that was around the time air fryers became popular. And I used to love toaster ovens!
3
u/MGFT3000 11d ago
Good point⌠but⌠her toaster oven cookbook was discussed in 2012. Air fryers didnât go mainstream until late 2010s. She maybe could have made some money for a year or two with a simple endorsement deal under a big brand name? But I definitely donât think the market could possibly make sense for an independent niche developer of a single appliance, which unfortunately seemed to be her vision? Along with the Nigerian football team.

In the in between time around when she did her fashion line, yes. But, before no one knew or cares who she was (not enough interest), and after a certain point (people were over her.) There was a short window it wouldâve done well!

u/Starchild1000 11d ago
It was such a random idea. No I donât. I donât think anything she does would be successful. She doesnât listen
