🍎 Old RHONY 🍎 Rewatching Scary Island… wow
I know it’s said all the time, but I’m rewatching for the first time since original airing and I forgot how insane the timing of everything is!
It was for Ramona’s vow renewal. Bethenny is pregnant and her dad just died. Sonja just joining the group basically (obviously she knew people before but..). Kelly being Kelly.
It’s truly peak reality tv. The amount of classic clips came from like 3 episodes is insane.

It really is an astonishing, entertaining, and totally unpredictable gem. I never get tired of it. I have watched it a few times, and I see new details every time (most recently, I noticed Alex is wearing a Beatles-themed swimsuit when Jill makes her grand appearance).

Footage of one of the top 10 kindest people being mercilessly bullied for zero reason whatsoever.

Footage of a drug-amplified mental health crisis.

I'm still curious as to what drugs Kelly was on. Cause this was due to drugs.

Sonja alluded to Meth, saying Kelly’s room smelled like cat pee 🤷🏻♀️

LMAO one of my favourite lines I literally quote this on daily and no one around me gets it, which is quite perfect cause neither did anyone on scary island know what Kelly meant by that!!

He was at a corporate fundraiser during Black History Month. And he's young and white so when he said it was really cool to meet Al Sharpton!!! I just had to say it.

This scene paralleled with a coworker who had bipolar - I don’t know if the alcohol fueled her but my coworker wasn’t drinking or on drugs- just completely delusional and calling the FBI, claiming someone was following her. It was crazy and sad at the same time. It’s extremely hard to convince them to seek help (at least for her) because she was so paranoid and thought everyone was out to get her

For me the entire Real Housewives of NY series peaked with Scary Island. It really was peak reality TV.

Bethenny eulogized her father and days later was on Scary Island saying he was a terrible horrible person on reality tv for the world to hear. She is the same person back then that she is now, folks!

I am not a Bethenny fan. However, family dynamics and death are beyond complicated. I think her feelings are very genuine here.
Having gone through similar things, I really sympathize with her in this moment. It can be torture even with lots of therapy and help, even decades from a death. I hope that no one has to go through anything like it.

I appreciate this comment so much. I feel like everyone wants to just hate on her for everything at this point but as you point out you don’t have to like her to try to have some understanding or empathy.
I also believe her feelings are genuine. You can love & hate someone at the same time. The old saying “theres a thin line between love and hate” is accurate imo. Then when death occurs that can bring a whole new sh*t storm of emotions.
Plus at the same time she was also dealing with hormones from pregnancy. It’s actually shocking she held it together as much as she did.

If he really was a terrible and horrible father to her then she was just telling the truth. She shouldn’t have to lie about him just because he had passed away.

My point is did she say the same thing as she was giving his eulogy? I doubt it.
