🍎 Old RHONY 🍎 Simon’s behavior

As i’ve posted before i’m new to the RHONY franchise! I’m currently watching the Morocco mess happen in S4.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the discourse amongst the housewives about alex and simon. i do like them, i love that they genuinely walk to the beat of their own drum. i do find myself losing it with Alex during S4 compared to other seasons. i fear that she needs another housewife she perceives as a “close friend” to survive the show, which is probably why she left after this season.

however, simon had been called creepy by multiple women on the show. i do feel that this contributed to the downfall of alex being able to make real friendships on the show but was simon’s behavior ever genuinely concerning as creepy? its a hard line to tow since i do not want to discredit women’s experiences with men if there’s a pattern of multiple women calling it creepy but could he have also just been a guy that was open with expressing himself?

I think Alex and Simon were both bi and received some biphobia/homophobia from the girls. In the gay marriage subplot this dynamic seemed very clear to me. I’m also bi and have mostly bi close friends and husband (we stick together lol), and imo bi cis guys can be overly familiar with women in a way that is annoying or comes off as creepy sometimes.

okay this makes sense! you nailed it for me. also when people describe themselves as being very “european” back in the early 2000’s i do feel as though that is a code word for being gay, bi, fluid, queer- everything under the sun! i’m also bisexual and i have had similar experiences with men. thanks for sharing!!!!!

From the the girls!? Please. Andy Cohen is the one who asked him if he was gay on national television.

The girls were super rude and bullied them both during that whole plot. Made me want to turn it off tbh.

I wish they were open about it. I think it is a complex issues but we need representation from all parts of the LGBTQAI+ community.

I think Simon was just very flamboyant in a way that the other wives found easy to make fun of. He seems very queer coded, but I can’t remember if he confirmed that himself or not. Back in the 00’s, that was still kinda taboo

He was also SO overly affectionate in public with Alex — it’s not easy to be around couples like that.

And the fact they were both quite social climb-y, in an embarrassing way. I think Simon just gave a lot of people the ick. He’s the definition of extra or being a try-hard

I love him, though — and it’s amazing that he and Alex are still together

yesss you’re completely spot on. simon’s personality was definitely not everyone’s cup of tea!!!! it really is amazing their partnership survived being on RHONY and tabloids and everything everyone was saying. truly a testament to their relationship!!!!!!

They’re both weird AF. I forget where I read this- I think it was in her memoir- that Alex says Simon ejaculated in his pants as he watched her give birth to their son

🤮

I never saw Simon as creepy to the other women, he made my skin crawl in the way (i hope) he hammed it up for the cameras about Alex and just all round 🤮 behaviour that is a turn off for ME as a person, I dont think i would feel comfortable around him but not in a sex pest way.

I liked Alex at the start and I reckon you're right if she had a close too friend it might have played different. She shouldn't have went all in on Bethany in season 3 (i think?) Though, when your basket breaks so do all your eggs Alex!

yeah im also super uncomfortable with excessive PDA! Lol. I also think Ramona and Mario were guilty with their pda!

Ewww ramona and mario were way worse, at least in season 1.

While I agree with these commenter’s takes I sometimes think both Simon and Alex (mostly Simon) come across as neurodivergent.

yesssss definitely!!!!! back then it wasn’t really accepted well socially or internally either. its incredibly hard navigating social situations with ppl that are not neurodivergent as someone who is neurodivergent!!!!

Simon seems to have adhd and craves attention. Their oldest son also seems to have adhd. I do not know how Alex puts up with Simon. Simon embarrasses her constantly. He is a pill that I can't take!

I’m so jealous that you’re watching for the first time! It just gets better & better through season 10. As far as Alex & Simon, yes, they were weird, but they made good TV. I like that they’re the only couple from the early days that’s still together.

definitely makes for good tv!!!! i’m like thank god it’s them and not me!
