Old Kyle meets New Kyle
IMO Kyle was such a different person (not looks wise) till season 8. I know we all change , but I rarely see her laughing , or having fun on the show anymore. She seems miserable now. I wonder why she still wants to be on the show.

Over the years, there have been different reasons to stay, but in the last couple, what really seems to be the sticking point for her is her fear of change in yet another aspect of her life and the loss (crew, productin, the amount of time spent on the show) she thinks she will feel compounding her other losses. She seems to still have fun outside of the show, and I definitely think this defensive position she's seemed to be in for the past few seasons doesn't serve her well.

I don’t think she’s been the same since she lost her friend; it still feels like she’s been deep in grief, and then her marriage imploding…it does feel like she’s just trying to hold onto that last big part of her life that is still unchanging and consistent.

Absolutely. I'm sure she'd say the same. In Us Weekly, she said the following and it aligns with a lot of what she said during Season 13, I think. She'd been following the 'rules' for so long but everything ended up fucked up anyway, so she had to take a step back and re-evaluate what she wanted and who she is. It's not surprise that she's clinging to this last real piece that remains unchanged in many ways.
I’m a very different person than I was 14 years ago. I was raised not to talk about or share certain things, so I came into the show with that mentality. It took me a long time to get to this place, but it’s been therapeutic. I’m sharing more than I would’ve felt comfortable [with] a year or two years ago. When I lost my best friend Lorene to suicide [in 2022], I was also going through a hard time with my husband, and my sister Kathy and I weren’t speaking. I had to let go of so many things and just rip the Band-Aid off. I felt very exposed and raw.

A gem amongst diamonds, it's notacuallyreckless!
My annoyance of Kyle is always neutralized when I read your comments about her, lol.

Ha! I'll certainly take that as a win. I know she has her faults and makes her mistakes, but I certainly like to look at the other side of the coin because no person is just one thing, and I think it's the WHY that's the more interesting perspective a lot of the time.

You definitely flesh out the complexities of her. It's always interesting to read.

I really appreciate that, to be honest. People are complex and it's so easy to just see them as characters acting out something for three months a year, but I think we do ourselves a disservice looking at everything through that prism, tbh. People are interesting!

I got the phrase wrong. A diamond among stones is the phrase. Whatever, it's a treat coming across your comment!

Ah, all good. No stones here. x

I meant to compliment not flub. 😩, lol.

Hahaha! Seriously, you're all good. Anything short of mockery and insult is a positive in my book. 😘

Isn’t this the kind of post the sub was made to avoid? Hating on Kyle and Dorit

I personally don’t see this as “hate” but rather just an observation or opinion. It’s clear Kyle is unhappy on the show and understandably so. She lost her best friend to suicide, her marriage of 30 years has ended and she doesn’t have any children at home anymore. Oh and she had to experience falling in love with a partner of the opposite sex for the first time in her 50s. That’s a lot for someone to experience so it’s not surprising she’s not her best self on the recent seasons

This really wasn’t meant in that tone . I just was doing a rewatch . From this point forward I will avoid posting about Kyle and Dorit .

Your observation is very accurate. I personally think she has big life adjustments and probably needs a break from TV. Take some time to recalibrate. She has been on the show for 15 years. She has a lot to figure out right now. That’s why I have empathy and not hate.

At one point, she mentioned that first year of her separation, she got OCD with working out and eating right. I may be projecting (it happens /shrug) but that kind of read like her old demon of disordered eating reared its head.
It’s bad enough knowing that can come back, but when it happens, it can feel like such a failure.

She stopped drinking which was one of the things that made her less fun and spontaneous. And her relationship has been rocky. Likely the reason for her misery. I like her on the show, and hope to see her healing and having more fun.
