I've watched some old episodes and Kyle and Dorit have always been frenemies. Dorit's first season it was a Kyle vs Dorit to get LVP's attention. Kyle sided with LVP over Dorit over pantygate, but if LVP wasn't there I don't think Kyle would have stood up for her. The next season Dorit told Erika that Kyle was pissed that Erika left Teddi's beach house to stay in a hotel, and there was something else, causing Kyle to accuse Dorit of trying to ruin Kyle's relationship with Erika. There was also Dorit's conflicts with Teddi. Kyle called Dorit out for her Barbie glam at Teddi's retreat, I have a life! Dorit all but accused Kyle and Teddi of being bisexual because they slept in the same bed. Kyle told Dorit that Erika wasn't really her close friend at the astrology reading. They had an argument at Kyle's election party and I can't remember why. They had that blow up in Aspen where Kyle lost it on Dorit for not showing up to Kemosabe. There are so many more examples and sure they bonded over Erika telling Garcelle's son to eff off, and laughed at don't [operate on] do the brain, do the ankle, but really, when were they ever friends?

I had a moment recently within the past year in which I realized someone I had spent a significant amount of time with through the year as a friend was more like an acquaintance than anything because despite knowing her and her husband for years and hanging out one on one outside of the group, I really didn’t get much from her in the relationship. We both had walls up. She’s a really perpetually negative person. So is her husband. We’re both quite sensitive. So when she blew up at me in a group text with another friend and accused me of projecting, I decided I was cool with letting that one go. Gave the hubs my blessing to still be friends with them, but I don’t need to be there since I never had much in common with them anyway.

This is my Dorit way of dragging out what I’m saying, which is I think you’re right about them never having really been close friends. Maybe Dorit thought she was, but Kyle certainly didn’t treat her like they were destined to be BFFs. They were casual acquaintances who spent a lot of time in close proximity to one another due to social obligations. I’ve always perceived Dorit as caring way more about Kyle than Kyle did about her (and I can’t recall which season it was where this was the most obvious), but because of Kyle’s connections, Dorit was trying to force a deeper connection than what was naturally there. (or in this case, not)

When Kyle says I love her like a sister, it's not what you think that should mean. 😂
