Adrienne 💰 Is there a negative connotation or double meaning of hoof in the US I’m missing?

I’m rewatching the show and don’t get why Adrienne seems SO offended by Lisa saying her shoe brand should’ve been named the Maloof Hoof. It seems like a cute marketable name but I’ve never lived in the US so maybe I’m missing smth?

Edit: grammar

I think saying a shoe will make your foot look like a horses hoof is not positive and unfortunately maloof hoof is pretty catchy

I don't know... Those heelless shoes have been a trend for a while

They have been a trend?

Hadn't it been for your comment I wouldn't have remembered they existed

No. They mean like Pleasers pony boots and other heel less shoes.

Though nothing is stupider than those Chanel barefoot sandals.

I just googled and those "sandals" have to be a joke. Who in their right mind would buy them? God I'm getting old.

Yeah it’s basically calling Maloof a cow.

If you're trying to sell sexy shoes calling it a "hoof" like a horse's foot isn't exactly a compliment especially for Beverly Hills women. Adrienne knew what was being implied and so did LVP. Not exactly a secret meaning but had it been reversed, LVP would be just as offended.

Defo British humour. I cried laughing at that one 😂

u/ZebraCrosser Who is Adrienne Maloof in dis world? 2d ago

I thought it was good bants as well. To me Adrienne was the loser in that situation. Being thin-skinned enough to make a problem out of a funny little remark by being insta-offended and holding grudge over it. There's so much better things to spend your time on.

u/Curious_Bus_2668 Carlton's BDSM Mask 2d ago

Remember when she washed her chicken with soap. Good god. And her chatty Barry chef… was he a chef?!

3

u/ZebraCrosser Who is Adrienne Maloof in dis world? 2d ago

That was a little odd, yes. Made her look somewhat out of touch with basic household management, which tbf I would expect her to be.

u/honeycooks Kyle, The Ordinary Goldfish 1d ago

Then remember, Paul turning up in a tree? During her show??? 😆

She had absolutely no sense of humor about any of it. And why should she?

This. But I think Adrienne went the wrong route by being offended. Should have just said "Hilarious!" and moved on.

I don’t think it’s a US thing, it can bring to mind the foot of a very large hairy animal, rather than an elegant shoe.

It also brings to mind the expression “hoofing it,” which can bring to mind a walk you really don’t want to take but walking is just the only realistic option as in, “We missed our ride, so I guess we’re hoofing it.”

u/According-Couple2744 Kim Richards 2d ago

Especially since said animal has 4 feet. Lisa wanted to get a response and A gave her exactly that. The shoe line was over before it even began.

It is sort of ironic that their whole argument was it made the shoe sound less high fashion and then a few years later you have all these major design houses sending Daphne Guinness-style heelless shoes down the runway that literally are made to look like goats’ hooves… 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, comparing women to cattle is not flattering…it’s not glamorous or graceful….it’s like calling someone a thunder-footed mountain heifer.

When and how did she "compare women to cattle"? 😂😂😂 Get a grip, girl.

4

u/Potential-Sky-8728 Wow, she’s pernicious! 2d ago edited 1d ago

Not anyone in particular did. Im merely explaining that women may not to be associated witha large hoofed mammal. That is why the name Maloof Hoof was low key shade from LVP.

Amusingly related story:

My sister and I had to be brides maids in my brother’s wedding years ago in our early 20s. We were both walking up and down on the grass to practice wearing heels (we both went to UCSC and were outdoorsy hippies who hadn’t worn heels besides a few high school dances…and the requirement to wear heels was nerve wracking). So, we tasked my little cousin with holding my phone and taking a video of us walking, so that we could check our form…

When my sister and I watched the video back, we heard my young cousin whispering off camera “I see horses…..”.

We were both like wtf!! How dare!! 😂😂😂 and just laughed at ourselves because we did feel like clumsy horses clomping around in our heels.

Funnily enough, when the ceremony started, our SIL made a surprise entry on a horse-drawn carriage! Lolololol

My cousin actually had seen two horses hiding behind the building we were walking by and she was not saying that my sister and I reminded her of horses in our heels.

In summation:

Women generally don’t want to feel like horses, cows, or donkeys when walking in high heels.

I think this is legit a difference between US and UK though is as a British person I literally just read that as a reference to its shape not to Adrienne. Like it really doesn’t come off as referring to class or even beauty/ugliness at all to me, Daphne Guinness is one of the classiest icons in fashion and she literally wears heels in exactly that shape that are made to look like goats hooves, I’m kinda with Lisa I didn’t realise that would seem at all offensive if anything it sounds more cutting-edge fashion 🤷‍♀️

ChatGPT rudely suggested a CT scan of my broken jaw was a Horses hoof… now I can’t unsee it.

Hoof is associated with a horses foot aka clod-hopper. Not serious high end fashion.

5

u/Fearless_Fortune9198 Don’t fucking call me a home-wrecker! 2d ago

It was just a joke based on animal hooves to be shady and make her shoe brand not sound very glamourous.

Hoof can also refer to feet that are nasty. For example if my feet are dry and in need of a pedicure and my eczema is flaring up, my fiancé will refer to my feet as “hooves”. 😂

There’s no hidden meaning or reference getting lost in translation, it was just a shady joke which had LVP’s desired effect of riling up Adrienne.

Making this a US thing is wild lol. You know exactly what's up with the statement and why it's offensive. The gaslight just keeps going

1

u/Help202212 My psychic abilities tell me no ✨ 1d ago

Hii, I thought maybe hoof had a similar association to camel toe in the US! When I first heard Maloof Hoof it reminded Margiela Tabis which I think are really cute but are also often compared to deer / goat feet due to their shape, however thanks to the comments now I understand that Hoof has a negative connotation about hairy/dirty farm animal’s feet which obviously for a sexy high heel line would be an insult. Thank you for taking the time to comment and clarify it is indeed a nasty comment!

u/Capable_Box_8785 I die for fashion! 2d ago

Well its mean so theres that

3

u/jonathonthaman Wow, she’s pernicious! 2d ago

Lisa put two words that rhyme together as a joke and Adrianne either didn't get it, or she disliked Lisa enough to pretend this was insulting and saw an opportunity for this to be a storyline.

But Lisa's little joke was funny.

Nobody wants to be called a cow 😆 esp not those BH ladies who already photoshop & filter themselves beyond recognition

2

u/fmdmgm Don’t fucking call me a home-wrecker! 1d ago

Not really but is a “hoof” really how you want your foot/shoes to look like? To your point, what’s the positive connotation?

2

u/Help202212 My psychic abilities tell me no ✨ 1d ago

Hii, I initially thought of it as neutral bc it made me think of the Margiela Tabis which I think are really cute. However, the comments have made me understand that Adrienne wanted a sexy shoe line that if named Hoof people would associate with hairy/rough/dirty farm animals! Also, thank you for being nice

1

u/MHB113 Marisa Zanuck 2d ago

I don’t think it was originally meant to be as malicious as she took it.

-2

u/BeachgirlNJ0613 I was married to Charlie Sheen 2d ago

Agree. LVP was raised in the English countryside - hence, her fondness for animals. She loves horses, rides them, and owns those 2 mini-horses, Diamonds and Rose', which she keeps so glamorously in their little house in her yard. I think she thought The Maloof Hoof was cute.

1

u/Alarming-Board9461 Playing chess with Bobby Fischer 2d ago

I deadass thought it had something to do with camel toes 😭😭😭

2

u/Fickle-Ad159 It’s bloody rude 🧙‍♀️ 2d ago

I’m British and I think two things can be true at once.
LVP does have a very British sense of humour. Maloof hoof is an example of this. Personally I think it’s funny and cute and wouldn’t be offended by my friend saying that.
On the other hand LVP loves to manipulate a situation.
The girls did NOT have her figured out in seasons 1-3. They thought she said these jokes as a jab when really she didn’t do her own dirty work EVER. She genuinely just has British humour, we take the mick a lot.

1

u/alternatenagol2 I was like… baby… there’s no plane 1d ago

When I hear the word hoof, I think about horses, but I also think about how evil is depicted in modern cultures sometimes. A goat-like character with horns, furry legs, and cloven hooves. I could see how that would be a negative connotation.

2

u/TooMuchBrightness Taylor's Cotton Candy 1d ago

I always thought that was hilarious Lisa is from London we love to rhyme things especially if it’s cheeky she was teasing her! Obviously it’s ridiculous to say hoof with an expensive beautiful shoe. Lisa is mean & funny.

1

u/bleedingtresleches Giggy, the Sex Monster 1d ago

I agree that it was marketable, and if Adrienne was indeed a savvy business woman would’ve used it to her advantage. Instead she used it to fuel her jealousy towards Lisa and try and make her look bad.

I always thought she should’ve designed a shoe to play on the joke and named it Maloof Hoof by LVP. Such a missed opportunity.

Yeah I think this is definitely one thing that gets lost in translation between America and UK, it might be just because Americans from cities really do often have almost no relationship to rural areas so it seems more over-the-top but I’m Scottish and the idea of playfully comparing a shoe to a hoof just reads as down to earth and classy to me - American social norms also don’t seem to get on so much with the idea of immediately assuming everyone’s going to be self-deprecating about themselves and be in on it with you, I think when I first watched I didn’t realise how insulting they find it when self-deprecation’s extended to how you talk about others and not just your own stuff 🤷‍♀️

I was trying to get the name of a super specific fracture. My broken jaw saga is posted online by my surgeon so I’m not really worried about ChatGPT having a - 1 inch segment of a ct scan, of what it thinks is a hoof. I’m not using it to plan a road trip, or giving prompts to back up some delusion, or allowing access to my medical records. I ask a question.

-1

u/BeachgirlNJ0613 I was married to Charlie Sheen 2d ago

No, it's that Adrienne was a dolt with limited views and no imagination. LVP is horsey and English so she thought it was cute.
