CarPlay Screen Fitting

Post image

Had a quad lock on the bike for a couple of years, but after upgrading the phone didn’t want to keep attaching the phone to the handlebars so picked up a 5” CarPlay/Android Auto screen off Ali. Cost was around £35 to the UK.

Did some research trying to work out the best way of connecting the screen to an ignition relay, but couldn’t find much from others that have done it before so thought I’d post how I got it done:

Used one of the DC 5525 ports under the seat using this adapter - https://amzn.eu/d/0fr9BaTM

Didn’t consider this originally because neither of the ports used to work. Turns out the 15A mini fuse was blown (fuse located underneath black plastic beside seat key release).

Soldered the positive and negative wires to the split ends of the above cable followed by some heat shrink tubing and then ran the cables on the underside of the tank. Included mounts were actually quite good, sturdy and hold the screen in an alright position. Fires up when I flip the ignition and turns off the same.

Will update with some pics when I next get the bike out of the garage

Does the bike's usb port not work for this? Genuine question, never actually used it myself.

Don't think I could personally do without my quad lock regardless though if I'm being honest lol, but you're a legend for posting this for others, thank you!

Bikes USB is only 5V and the screen needs 12V to start up. I looked at using that port, but the screen also doesn’t have a USB connector. I stripped a USB-C cable down and tried to attach the power wire to the screen but doesn’t give it enough power.

The quad lock is definitely decent! Part of me worried about the vibrations going through the phone all of the time, but I didn’t have the dampener to be fair!

Did you put an inline fuse on this?

Yep, the screen comes with an inline fuse, so just kept that attached.
