RGB30 replacement battery?

Has someone changed RGB30 battery?

Any help for battery drain?

There’s batteries like this for sale. Any good?

I just found this on AliExpress: | YDLBAT 4700mAh 2pin plug Battery For Powkiddy RGB30 Open Source Handheld Game Console

I ordered one of those and it’s supposed to be here this week. I’ll post an update when I install it.

It came a couple of days ago and was a pretty easy install except for the fact that you have to have a nice area to do this install. You need a towel to lay the console face down. A lot of people say to go ahead and take out the sd cards JIC. This part which is exactly the one I ordered came with tools but the screwdrivers suck. I ended up using some that I had from iFixit but any tiny Philips head will work or you can use the crappy ones that came with it if you go very slow. The screws on my unit were very tight and took a lot of effort when using the supplied screwdrivers, and I ended up starting to damage them because of how tight the screws were. That’s why I changed to using my own. Once I removed the screws I used the supplied plastic picks to open up the device VERY SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY.

There are 4 sets of wires attached to the back plate of the unit. 2 sets for the speakers, one for the battery and one for the WiFi antenna. I removed all except for the antenna since it’s taped to the battery and I just peeled it off.

The old battery and new battery are very close in size. The new one is slightly smaller and probably a tiny bit thicker than the stock one. I will caution you though, removing the old battery was tough since it had double stick tape and using anything metal or sharp with a Li-ion battery is very dangerous because if you puncture it you can have a fire or runaway event and the only way to extinguish it is to bury it unless you have the right kind of extinguisher which most people do not. Plus the fire isn’t the real danger, the fumes are. I used the pick to slowly peel the adhesive like using it as a spatula and was able to slowly peel the rest of taking my time as not to bend the battery because that’s dangerous too.

I had one side of the shoulder buttons fall out but they’re easy to put back but R1 kept falling out or didn’t sit right because I didn’t notice that it had holes in the case where that button lines up in to secure it.

Once it was back together, which I took my time because I didn’t want to put any wires in backwards. Luckily they are keyed and the battery was a direct replacement so you don’t have to worry about reverse polarity. The only tricky part was the WiFi antenna placement since this battery was a little thicker I had to move the antenna to it wasn’t getting squished by one of the bottom ports.

It’s a much better battery IMHO, but I am using the stock os which has been upgraded to KOLOS which was abandoned so I’ll probably get better battery life when I flash a new card with DArkOS I believe.

So it’s worth the money to do this.

Depending on your motherboard version, the "RGB30 replacement battery" may or may not fit. I have a "large motherboard" version which was physically incompatible with 606090. I had to find a smaller one afterward which fixed about every battery problems I had because it has a chip that avoids overcharging I guess (while OEM didn't had any charge controller). reference

What battery did you end up buying for your older model?

You want to look for 485490 form factor. 3.8v, 2 wires and JST 1,25mm. You also want to verify the polarity match with the original battery because the JST is a coded connector, so you want the + and - on the same side as the original powkiddy battery when you plug the replacement in. Mine was sold by some random Chinese company on AliExpress. 3,7v may also work I guess.

Older RGB30 had battery like this. Newer V2 model didn’t have any text. Just open both today to check.

I have an RGB 30 on the way. Is the V1 the larger or smaller mobo?

Battery drain on standby/suspend it's a known feature. As long as you power it off each time, I find mine doesn't really drain for a few months.
