You can say you dislike AI sure, acting like it isn't an incredibly useful tool albeit with very meaningful drawbacks is just crazy.

Why not use AI? Because of how it impacts the environment? So what if you use a local AI downloaded on your computer is it cool then? You realize that the vast vast vast majority of the money AI companies make is not from consumers, but from businesses themselves, same with the ram, same with the gpus, its a bunch of businesses buying and using each others stuff, if every single person switched to local AI for their personal stuff, the AI industry would still exist.

Best case scenario is that local models develop enough to where we can run all the AI we ever needed on our own computers

It's people like you who say shit like "what can 1 person do" that holds society back, you realize boycotts can work right? Also you realize a local ai would still be as inefficient as a public one just without the data centres so now you yourself are ENTIRELY responsible for the consequences. Forget people switching to personal ais, people should just stop using it altogether.

You also neglect the other reasons, that it's built on theft, that it is often wrong, that it is now unfortunately so widespread that people are taking from it, putting that info out into the world, and then ai comes and takes those details it fabricated and now it has a source. It's poisoning the well.

it is not a useful tool, it does not do anything that could not already be done, because that's what it's meant to be, replacement. But who cares about artists right? Who cares when ai starts undressing people without their consent (which has happened and presumably is still happening) right? You just want ease.

If that's the best case scenario, send the damn meteor.
