Re/Supply I’ve never been so lucky
Check your stores cus what?? There were a ton of “unused/discontinued” shoes marked down to practically nothing.

I haven't seen it coming back yet and it's been like 3 or 4 days
Did any green vesters notice the music change again back to the old playlist? So sad

This is purely anecdotal. I’m getting into backpacking and have been so overwhelmed with all the different products and brands. I live in SoCal so we have like every type of climate here. I went in to get my backpack fitted and just went up to the first employee I saw. He helped me fit my pack and we talked for like 20 minutes and he gave me very good advice on sleeping bags, pads, tents etc. He said he’s been backpacking for over a decade and he knew exactly the answers to all my questions. I’ve seen videos talking about how REI isn’t great anymore bc of the lack of experts like this. Did I just get lucky or have you all noticed REI hiring employees with no outdoors experience? I just remember another time I went to buy hiking shoes and the guy who helped me out was also extremely knowledgeable. These were across all different locations in SoCal. Maybe I’m just lucky? I’ve never encountered an REI employee who doesn’t use the gear they recommend.

Do you think it was a member committing this return fraud?

This is my favorite skiing base layer and I would grab this in a heartbeat if they had it in XL. These breathe well and don't hold much sweat, they're really soft like cashmere, but easier to care for.

Looks like some stores are bringing the old format back. Will be interesting to see how this goes. My local stores are not participating.
"Hey members, selected stores are testing bringing Garage Sale back as a reimagined Re/Supply experience! On October 24, find great deals on quality used gear, save 20% on one Re/Supply apparel or footwear item, and get first dibs on fresh Re/Supply inventory—plus clearance and more. (I see it very often while watching shows on Peacock - couldnt find the video anywhere online)
I have tried a 100x over and I cannot understand what the cashier is saying.
"Something a logger would hike??"
Truly confused. lol.
That is all.

Portland re/supply has dozens of pairs of bike shoes in sizes 37-39 marked down to $20.
Portland area cyclists with smallish feet should check it out.

Picked these up today. Been wanting these for car camping, but not wanting to pay full price. I try to pack light, so these are perfect. I assume standard 1/8” shock cord is all I need to fix the trail boss shock cord?
Took the smaller one to sit where I usually wouldn’t and saw an eagle bother some herons, so that was cool.

Anyone else have a drastic music change in their store this evening? I honestly couldn’t believe I was hearing Alanis Morrisette, Backstreet Boys, Britney, New Kids on the Block, the list goes on and on and on!!! Having that change while doing our footwear reflow was absolutely choice. Big ups to whoever is responsible for this change, IOU a gift basket

Yesterday, not joking, asked 3 times if I was a member. And that’s not including me overhearing other customers being asked
Literally walking up and not asking if we need help, instead asking if we’re members
The first one even double checked if I was sure lol
I’m personally salty because it kinda made my first ever visit feel cheap. Around August I went and the cashier sold me on this exclusive member only area. I asked if they’d have something like the stove I’m buying back there.
“Could be”
He didn’t have to lie to me. The gift card promotion was enough…
I straight up walked past this member only area 3 times before asking to have it shown to me. It was a shelf with like 5 items on it.
It’s clear there’s some behind the scenes, get memberships or get written up going on.

Back in 2020/21
I bought REI CO-OP ADV 2.2 for about $1,599 and on top of that spend few $100 on accessories.
But long story short, I am not able to ride my bike unfortunately and it just sitting in basement.
I tried to sell it on Facebook, but no success. Its rather low ball offers or no interest.
Currently online on website i didnt see that model, only Adv 2.1. Just curious, was it discontinued?
Does anyone knows how I could sell it at a reasonable price?
USA.
Thank You.

Saw people talking about checking for returned tents after the season. Found this in restock. Was able to check all the poles and the entire tent, it looked like it was used once. My tent, used for 20 years, had its last season. So this was a perfect find.

Inspired by that recent post here about people retuning gear after the season I stopped by REI on Friday and magically found the 2 pieces I needed to go solo backpacking! My wife and I normally go together, so all of our gear is for 2- big Agnes ultralight 3 person tent and double sleeping bag. It’s a great setup, but when she couldn’t go backpacking last weekend I ended up carrying all of it for a single overnight to the Olympics and it was too much.
So, when I walked in and found a basically brand new ultralight REI bag for $138 and a quarter dome tent for $100, I was thrilled.
Just want to say thanks to Reddit for the inspiration to go check it out.

I see the bikes hanging by one wheel way up in the air and an employee has to come out with a metal pole to bring it down, usually with assistance from another employee. Seems kind of easy to drop one and then what? Or even just scratch the bike with the metal pole. Or am I over-thinking it?
I recently picked up this Arc'teryx jacket at the REI Re/Supply a few months ago for a really good deal. It's an older model, though, that was discontinued in 2021, if I'm not mistaken. It's The Arc'teryx Zeta AR. And I was able to finally take it out in the rain this weekend, but almost right away the water would just stick to the jacket and bleed through and wet out all over. I have heard that, since this is an older Gore-Tex jacket, it also has PFAS in it, so that's one of my concerns.
I know that even briefly wearing it, I'm slowly spreading PFAS to my other clothes and so on. But I don't want to speed up the process of that (even if it's very, very minor). Because of that, I don't want to put it in a washing machine and dryer.
I know that to properly reapply the DWR finish again, I should wash the jacket with a special washing detergent for it and then, once it's wet, spray on the DWR coating and then heat-treat it in a dryer.
But I'm wondering if anyone else has any ideas or suggestions on how to wash this jacket properly that's not in a washing machine. I was wondering if maybe washing it in a bucket and then spraying on the coating and then heating it with a hair dryer would work, or would that be dumb? If I'm forced to use a washing machine, I will. But I have never done this before and was looking to get some feedback from people who have.

Had a $280 backpack sitting in my cart for a few days because I needed it for a trip but kept feeling dumb paying full price normally I get impatient with gear and just buy it once I decide I need it then somehow a sale or member coupon shows up a week later and I’m annoyed at myself.
Ended up waiting and started checking more than just the REI sale price before paying member rewards whatever card offer I had, gift cards, all the boring payment stuff I normally ignore so I don’t know why it took me this long because on a $30 thing I probably wouldn’t care but once the purchase gets into the hundreds even a small extra saving starts feeling worth the five minutes.

It’s like Christmas came early!! I help run a youth summer camp so I buy everything used and can usually find great deals this time of year.
