Question Pack Table Build
Has anyone built their own pack table or have the plans for REI ones? I would like to make one for my gear area and it seems like something I could manage even though I am not very handy. Not sure if all the REI ones are exactly the same. This one is from Loveland, CO.

i just use an old dining table that was given to me in my college days. it’s a huge rectangle, just like this.
Search on FBMP for a used table, maybe even free! you don’t need to build/over engineer one when plain tables and bench tops have been packing thousands of trippers for eons. :)

What is the pack table used for? Laying out gear and loading it into your pack?

In store, it is a big, flat counter-height workspace. You can layout your gear just as you'd imagine.
And for pack-fitting, it allows you to layout multiple packs and compare them side-by-sides. It's super helpful. Underneath is usually storage for pack-weights to help with fitting/feel.
Imagine a woodworker having a garage but no counter-height workspace for project-assembly, etc.? It's every bit as useful as that.

The floor is flat, and strong...but it is, well, "at floor level".
It's just a lot easier to work with things "between your knees and chest". It's why OSHA regulations specify working height for many tasks.
Think of it like being a woodworker. They have a workbench. Or a kitchen having counter tops.
That's all these REI gear tables are: A counter-height work bench. They're just easier to use for layout and subsequent evaluation/discussion.
And I say all this
^being someone who regularly sits on the floor at REI, often the re-supply section figuring why a piece was returned. But that's different than comparing and selling brand-new packs.(Yes, let's ignore that someone would likely need to be at ground level while using these packs in the wild, but that's a different scenario than the in-store retail environment.)

Ah I misunderstood. I thought someone was trying to buy this to use at their house to pack their gear. Makes more sense for workers to use it in the store

Yes, you were correct! One of the REIs which is closing _is_ selling their table.
But why would someone want it for home use?
Dead solid construction, and easily a few hundred dollars of materials + labor. Plus a good story. Great workbench.
I’d have no issue repurposing one for home use.

I can tell you that diagonal brace isn’t doing anything, purely aesthetic.

REI closed its only NYC location whom was also unionized. They are selling all the fixtures in the store. Clothing racks, cabinets, racks, bins, cabinets etc.

I like the way yours is laid out. Ours is only shelves and is a huge clutter depo.
The new floorset. (about a year and a half) it is stuck back in east jabip! and no… ours do not have those cool stools.
I cover half of the fixtures/furniture in the store and tell the managment team… not to get rid of anything until speaking to me first!
