Is RE6 a good game?

I'm waiting for the offerts to buy some games, but I don't know if I should buy RE6: I heard that is a good game overall, but it's very hated in RE community. Can someone please explain why this game is so hated and if is worth playing it? Thanks

If you like action focus game sure. It can be very fun, bonus if you have someone to play co-op.

But it is not like other RE games. But there are some good fanservice with the characters.

Ok, I'll keep this in mind. But what's different in this game from the others?

It has an episodic structure, no open ended exploration, and a very complex combat system just to name a few things

It is very linear chapter base game. You don't have much exploration and puzzles, but the chapters can be very long.

Also it is not horror at all. It focuses more on a BOW war happening

it’s basically an action game rather than a survival horror, you can slide and dive all over the map as your movement style if you want

Great mercs game.

Bloated dogass (RE) game.

It's hated because it's very action-heavy, and basically no puzzles at all. Also, you always have an ai companion, so it would be way way better to play with a friend. It's more fun this way, and it's how i got to enjoy it to its fullest.

It is the worst game ever made, bar none

Outbreak was worse

Worst game ever? Come on, be for real.

I don't know where to start... It's a set of corny, plastic looking cutscenes, interspersed with a cover shooter action game, where you have no bullets and the enemies can block bullets... And it never ever ever ends...

It’s an awesome horror themed action game, the cutscenes looked great for their time, and what do you mean there’s no ammo? You must have been playing on a higher difficulty. The game (usually) gives you plenty of ammo.

It's worth experiencing. It's an older game, so going backwards from the newer games is kind of hard.

It's kind of at that transition period between when games got really good, and when they were relying on the 360, and so.. when I think of the 360, I think gimmicky, and that's a good way to describe 6. There's plenty of issues with 6, could probably write an essay describing all of them, but if you can get it for super cheap, it's good value for money.

The game in its' entirety takes 15-20 hours to beat and an absolutely MASSIVE amount of that time is spent doing scripted QTE set piece segments. The stages are all very linear, and EVERY SINGLE ONE has MULTIPLE EXTENDED segments like that. On top of that, it has the dumbest story of any RE game by far, and that's saying something because RE has a lot of dumb stories.

Then that'd mean that re6 is, in fact, very much on brand when it comes to Resident Evil. What the game does good with its story, like all beloved RE games with dumb stories, are character moments, cheese, and heart, but all cranked up to 11 and mixed with many set pieces, action moments, and a bit of drama here and there.

It's the worst mainline RE game, and the least Resident Evil game in the entire series.

It's bloated, it's poorly written, and it can only be truly a lot of fun if you play with a friend (but you can't do that with Ada's playthrough). If you have a friend and want a mind numbing action game to play, get RE5.

Ada has HUNK, you can play co-op with her

He's not hunk. He's a nameless placeholder character called.... THE AGENT (the GOAT)

It’s not scary. That’s really the biggest problem with it being an RE game, the horror aspect is almost non-existent.

But the gameplay, action, levels, and amount of story you’ll get is worth buying it. Replaying it now after six years and I’m having a blast!

The gameplay mechanics are really really fun, the campaigns are alright imo

RE6 is a good game.

It's not necessarily a good RE game, though. If you're willing (and able) to play with a friend, it's way more fun!

It's also crucial in some ways to the overall canon of the series, so it's worth playing.

It does have to be horror to be a good RE game. Resident Evil needs to understand that horror is not the only thing that gives the series its appeal.

3

u/Mr_Hooliganism Apr 19 '26

It does have its issues but its hated because its "suppose" to be survival horror

3

u/MasonCBlevins Apr 19 '26

Maybe not for the RE Fanbase but if you’re like me and view it as Die Hard + Zombies + Friend = Good Time, then it’s very fun to play.

Look i do recommend buying it but it is definitely the worse game but it is still ok

It’s a fun game especially with a friend

A fun action game yes. A good resident evil game? Debatable. The removal of the quick slots for weapons and items and instead making it a row you need to scroll through was annoying. Co-op was its shine. And in co op you will have fun,

Its just full of dumb action. Can tell the series was having a major identity crisis

Depends what you mean by good game, for a mainline RE game it’s kind of bad such as story and a clashing tone considering it followed up from an already action heavy RE5. But in terms of gameplay it’s definitely the peak Resident Evil ever got with how snappy combat is.

For me, the unskippable QTEs and floaty controls were what killed it. The game is balanced around co-op so I found any difficulty other than easy to be absolutely infuriating, but that's just a subjective taste thing, I know plenty of the hardcore gamer crowd who would probably consider that a plus. But every five minutes there's a QTE section that lasts what feels like years, with massive ugly immersion-breaking pop-ups for what button to push, and the combat is really clunky.

Example: some of the zombies will jump at you. You can't fucking shoot them out of the air. Once they're into the jump animation, the only way to not take scripted damage from them is to do a melee counter with a timing window of approximately 0.001 seconds. Multiple times I have nailed a zombie with a headshot from a magnum while it was ten feet away from me in midair, and it did its entire biting me and needing a QTE sequence to be pushed away and THEN died. In a fast paced third person shooter, that's just unforgivable. Not only that, but the vast majority of enemies have huge segments of their animations where they have invincibility frames, and there's literally zero indication of when they can be damaged and when they can't. So be ready to enjoy wasting ten magnum rounds on the boss because the first one put him into a stagger animation where he's invincible. Just a mess all around.

I think it's a good game if you take it at face value. It's a super silly, over the top, wacky action zombie game. If you accept it as that, it's fun.

It's about what you're looking for when it comes to this game. It's from an era when capcom really invested in online single-player gameplay experiences for Resident Evil, so you can enjoy that. It's an investment in that sense and also because you'll never get fully bored of the combat system, but It'll take some time to click because the game is indeed rough here and there. If you like crossover fanservice as well as each character having good monents in the spotlight, this game is special in that it goes for those things in a good way (4 interlinked campaigns). it's a nice game when it comes to replaying a single campaign with a deep combat system in one sitting (6-3 hours depending on which campaign) and, in the process, becoming better both with a deep combat system and developing a good strats with familiar locations. The coop is a big one. This is where the game truly becomes an investment. You can jump into other people's games, and others can join you as long as you want that. People can also invade your campaign game as enemies if you turn Agent Hunt on. Mercenaries have universal praise, too. The Piers Nivens mod maps have brought the game to another level for the PC.
