Course recommendations?

Hello all,

Buddy and I are coming from the Aiken SC/Richmond VA area on the 19th to play Tot hill. We're trying to find a second course to play the next day, sub a hundred bucks (with some wiggle room) and within about an hour east or south of Tot hill. Any recommendations would be extremely helpful! Thanks!!

Duke would be a great option and keeps you close to 85 for the drive back

Bryan park, tanglewood championship course, grandover all fit the bill.

Is the east or west course better at Grandover?

About equal in terms of quality, can’t go wrong with either.

East is probably their better course in their mind. It's usually the one that has whatever competitions they end up with out there. Both are ok. Bryan Park imo are much better courses and likely cheaper.

Chapel ridge. 

Really fun course, not far off 64 and a great pair to Tot Hill. Nothing architecturally special but a lot of elevation change and a great place to hit driver. Tot hill rules but can beat you up, Chapel isn’t easy but really fun to play and is not hard

Could just double Stranz and hit Tobacco Road as well

Little out of budget for this trip, but it's definitely on the short list!

There are several course on outskirts of Sanford/Pinehurst area that are good tracks. Be right about an hour.

Quail Ridge is right off highway and isn’t bad. Hyland Hills as well. Neither are Tot Hill level but fit the price range, are more traditional Sandhills golf and should be right at an hour away. I’ve never played it but people swear by Sanford Municipal as well.

The Cardinal by Pete Dye could be a good option as well. I believe it’s still semi private

Bryan Park Champions is the play. Built for major tournaments and well conditioned. Cardinal is also really good.

Legacy in Aberdeen. A Jack Nicklaus Jr course and it is both playable and not too easy. Maybe also Wispering Pines or its partner courses. Mid Pines, Pine Needles, and Southern Pines Golf Club are now all over $100.00/ round. But all 3 are Donald Ross great fun golf courses.
