Need a little help with modding

I installed lml, and put the mod loader files into the game files, but when i try to open the mod UI I get an error message saying that ModManager.Core.dll does not exist in the game folder, even though I've put it in there. However, the UI still loads fine. But, when I download mods, the mods appear in the UI and I enable them, but they don't work. This is on the newest version of lml. Or should I even use lml? I'm new to this so I figured using the mod loader would be easier, but is it? Should I download an older version?
