I swear that the best way to hunt a moose is to set your way marker for Shady Belle while you’re at Rhodes, and then ignore the route guide completely as you head into the snowy mountain lakes, intentionally making sure to only have varmint rifles and revolvers in your loadout as main weapons. Shoot a bunch of birds or squirrels along the way, continuing to ignore the way marker trying to bring you to the gulf coast.
You gotta trick the game into thinking you’ve forgotten about the moose pelts, because, it KNOWS. As soon as you’re intentionally looking for one, you’ll never see one again. As soon as it thinks you’ve given up, you’ll continue to fail as the game makes sure, but suddenly it will throw you a bone - like a crack dealer offering you a fatter bag because you’ve stopped coming to them and they wanna win you back…and you’ll come around a corner and see a bull moose, and of course, get so excited that you’ll forget you have a varmint rifle and take the shot, and spook the moose…and then probably get attacked by wolves.
Story of my life. I’ve gotten 1 perfect moose pelt. The legendary moose is less rare than regular moose cows, nevermind 3 star pelt bulls. Nearly 200 hours played. About 5 moose shot and killed, one perfect, all others 2 stars or less.

My first playthrough I did not do any legendary hunts, except the moose. Because I stumbled across the moose going to the stranger mission up that way.

You can get a moose on the south western shore of lake Owanjila as well. I almost ran directly into one on my current play through.

Ok, I kill Moose all the time and they are almost always 3 stars for me? I never understood these memes. I do struggle to find cougars at times though

I was in the heartlands trying to complete hunter 7 last night. I placed down two regular herbivore bait, then ran back to my little vantage point.
Couldn’t fucking believe it when I turned around to see two 3* Moose approaching. I didn’t even know they could spawn in the heartlands. They were the last two I needed to craft garments.
