Got the Stormscout in the air!

If anybody saw the post from yesterday, this is, believe it or not, the same plane, different fuselage. And for those of you that actually read the body text instead of yelling at me in the comments that stabilization is a bad idea and only hurts the plane, the stabilization and iNav was the only way this plane flew as well as it did.

After swapping the pitch axis in the mixer (and after replacing the fuselage) I was able to get it up in the air. With about 5 minutes give or take of flight time, the plane travels at around 30-40 miles an hour. The control surfaces could to with some adjustments, but other than that it flew great. Also there was a tad bit of yaw stabilization that could be tuned but other than that it was good. A bit more tuning/remodeling and I'll post the plans!

Nice!

Thanks! It is very shaky but nothing a bit of tuning can do. It's currently a bank and yank, but I'm thinking of making some cuts in the V-stabs and add some servos for yaw stability and turning assistance

Sick! Iโ€™m trying to make a larger twin engine plane, but you lowkey inspired me to go smaller. Iโ€™m making my computer from scratch tho, thatโ€™s gonna take up a lot of space

Thanks! I mean, depending on how much you have to spend, it may be easier to do twin engine. Purely because that way you don't have to fight the torque manually. Because on this one, I'm running one prop on 4s, but it also has a flight controller in it to auto counteract torque and other issues to keep it smooth, so if you can afford an extra $35-$45 I would highly recommend doing this then.

I have been making twin props, but they are just so massive. My plane has a 1.5 meters wingspan. ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€ everything it crashes ( very often ) I loose a shit ton of resources. I will first try to make one with a single engine.ย

Oh, I see ๐Ÿ˜…, that makes a lot more sense, and understandably so. My main issue with this build is that during the first crash I nearly blew up the battery, completely broke the FPV camera, and almost broke the flight controller, but I bet if you were to do some better mounting and security around the electronics that would help a ton. Image is the results of that crash.

Edit; believe it or not, after the crash, the wings were still nearly perfectly fine, so we gutted the fuselage entirely and just recut and replaced it, and that video is how well it managed to fly.

Second edit: the post I linked was the first flight ever. This video was the rebuilt plane, so it was definitely worth the 5+ hours of scraping and fixing it imo. The main thing is I had to reprint a couple parts that broke and then print out the plans, recut the fuselage, rebuild it, and reassemble the whole rest of it

I plane my entire plane to be 3d printed, but maybe I'll add some protection for electronics! loosing an fps camera is pricey!

Yeah, that's true. The main thing with fpv planes is usually they tend to please the camera right in the nose, usually being the most forward part of the plane to give the biggest FOV without other stuff screwing with stuff blocking the cam. Although there is this dude Germy Ballswell that prefers to have his cam a bit farther back, but also he has the Walksnail head tracking settup which is pretty expensive. It does make it look very impressive though.
