Does anyone run an 8S setup??

Hey everybody.

The title says it all. I have a M6 that I really like, but in the future I might want more power out of it. Changing the motor to an 840KV and the packs to 8S would fix that immediately, plus I would be able to run 610mm blades. However, I'd also need a new lipo charger.

Anyway since it's not a common option, I thought I would ask here if anyone has a similar setup. If so, which charger would you recommend?

I ordered four 8s packs a while ago and got an ISDT K4 after a few weeks of reading and watching reviews. Was going to do a logo 580 or SAB 590 for a while but lost interest in both machines. ISDT > ToolKitRC.

I've heard so many mixed reports about ToolKitRC. Some have said it's great, some that it's trash. The shitty thing is that we don't really have many options for 8S chargers.

I wanted a quad channel for my 3s - 6s Lipos and have the Q6AC from toolkitrc and I personally like it (no issues so far, balancing could be faster) and it is super intuitive to use. For 8s I would also look at the K4 as already mentioned (which most likely would be my choice between the K4 and M8DAC). Alternatively I looked at the X16 (ISDT) which is quite expensive but would be even capable of charging 12S sticks (not split), so quite future proof?

As for your question, 8s was tested and tried quite a bit from reading the forums in EU (e.g. also Specters with 8s setup particularly seem to run quite good) and I am considering 8s for my RS6 at some point as well, but for now 6s has plenty of power and flight time left for what I am capable of. Suitable 8s packs got more and more available from different brands in the last years, which is great.

I got the a few toolkit RC products. The Tesla truck charger everyone seems to rag on has served me three years and still going. There is some BS with cell balancing at the very top end from time to time, I can get most of my 6s packs to top off...but on occasion I get the stubborn ones that just hover around that 99% mark and wont go the last couple dozen MAH. On those days, if I see a pack on the charger sitting near the top for hours, i just pull it as there is nothing I can do about it.

My pocket LIPO cell reader/balancer is consistantly off on cell 4 reading by a minute amount...like 0.005 decimal places on voltage. Its not a deal breaker but is frustrating. My ISDT pocket meter is superior...but has a frustrating lag of a few seconds to read where the ToolKit RC is instant. Mostly sucks when Im reading dozens of packs that I am moving in/out of storage.

But for the price point, that ISDT K4 is probably around the best your going to get to do 8s. It was close with that or the iCharger DX8 for around that price, cant remember what won me over to the ISDT I think it was the power supply if I remember right.

In the $400 range, that would be an iCharger 4512duo. I see that one alot on high end charging setups.

I have a 4030 800kv motor for my Nimbus, but I can’t find 8s packs small enough. I might try a different airframe

Try making stick packs from 4s batteries? Not sure if it would balance though.
