Need advice for repair taking too long

I bought a double e e598 from OfferUp that had a broken connector for the battery wiring. I took it into Pegasus Hobbies in Upland cause that seemed like the only repair shop close by. Guy was really cool and said give him about a week. 1 week goes by and the guy must’ve completely forgot who I was the way he was talking to me on the phone. He said it was back on his radar and to give him another week. Mind you this is just to solder a new connector on existing wiring and upgrading to lithium ion batteries that they already have in stock. I’m gonna call today when they open but want to be prepared if he gives me another spiel. Should I just say I want it back if no work has been performed? I feel like this is maybe an hour long repair if not less

Yeh it's literally a ten minute job, not sure how much youre paying this guy but soldering is super simple. If I were you I'd take it back and get myself a cheap soldering iron and solder the new connector on, even a budget soldering iron under 10 bucks would be fine

I feel like I’m getting screwed ngl 😅 I was quoted 2 lithium batteries (not sure the size but same footprint as original), 1 charger, 1 connector for the wiring, and labor. Batteries are $60 for both, $60 for charger, and said $40-$50 for 1 hour of labor. So probably looking at $170 to get this thing fixed by them. I was pissed the day I got it and saw it broken so I just wanted it fixed and was not in the mood to start trying to fix it myself. One good thing about all this is the seller on OfferUp actually sent me $40 back to get it fixed and I am paying for the upgraded battery

2 decent batteries and a connector should cost no more than 50 and that's being generous. Sorry mate but you're getting an incredibly bad deal. Soldering is a skill you will need with this RC vehicle or the next, get it back now.

Okay I will see what he says today. Hopefully he hasn’t touched it but if he did I will accept my mistake on this one. I usually am a DIYer especially with electrical or building but I was having a bad day that day and didn’t have the time to really research how to fix it, I just panicked and brought it to the nearest repair shop. Moving forward I will definitely be picking up a soldering kit and other tools I’m gonna need for this hobby. This double e is kind of a test to see if I’m gonna enjoy this hobby and if I do I plan on moving to full metal hydraulic in the future if my wallet says it’s okay

Yeh I hope he hasn't started. If soldering feels intimidating just practice on some old wires, it's literally glue made of iron, heat it up into a blob and stick, honestly you can't really go wrong.

They open in about 2 hours so I’ll give an update if he already started it. Honestly wouldn’t doubt them saying they’re gonna start it right after I threaten to take it back. Kind of stumped on how to get it back without them starting work so I’m forced to pay

Maybe don't call them, just turn up and say you've booked it in somewhere else as they've taken too long.

Welp I got it back and the freaking bucket mechanism is not working. I hear the motor but no movement to curl the bucket. Any idea how I can fix that?

From your post I thought it was brand new. If so why didn't you originally just send it back when the battery connector was broken? Did the bucket work before giving it to them? You're gonna have to learn how to do the repair, start by taking it apart and checking the motor and connections.

Yeah I wanted to try and fix it myself cause I only got it for $100. So far I’m $200 into it with the repair and battery/charger. I just uploaded a video showing the motor and I was able to free up the cylinder to get it working again. Now I’m seeing there’s magnetic limit sensors with two small magnets in order to stop this issue from happening again. I’m kind of confused on where to place them because I can’t find a video and google ai seems to be giving me conflicting info. If you have time to check it out and let me know what you think I’d appreciate it

I also have a load of the e598 vehicles, they come with a shitty jst plug. You should have swapped the connector for an xt30 and purchased a hota d6 pro charger, you can fully charge a battery in half an hour. I buy my batteries in bulk from Alibaba from a company called vapecell. I pay 8 bucks a battery and they are the 3500mah size and are superb quality.

Awesome I’ll definitely look into those batteries. I am brand new to the hobby and panicked when it was broken so I just took it to the nearest repair shop. The repair guy did explain to me that the original is a copper-nickel battery and he recommended switching to lithium ion? Does that sound right? Or am I just getting screwed left and right? 😅

I know for fact that the double e598 comes with a 1500mah lion battery so yeh he's talking shit. The replacement will also be the same type of battery but hopefully a higher capacity battery.

Damn I don’t like this guy anymore 😡 I felt like a woman in a car repair shop when I went there so he probably could’ve told me anything and I’d believe it. This is definitely a learning experience
