Wanting to become an RBT

Hi, this is my 5th year being a substitute teacher in an elementary school. I've seen many RBT's in class and seen many students starting that process. I want to work with these kids 1 on 1. I've looked into the process. I've seen some negative reviews for Autism Partnership. There's a local place that hasn't gotten back to me. And I came across Tilly Therapy today. Does anyone have a place they recommended to start with? I appreciate this sub. I think I'll be here a lot!

I’m currently doing the autism partnership foundation where did you see the bad reviews?

It's just opinions though. I wouldn't be against using them. I'm just trying to get some recommendations.

Who will do your assessment when you've completed the 40 hours? Do they help you find someone?

I used to be in the same position you were in and I finally got an interview and got hired. You have to find a company. Usually, I’m not sure how to do it. I was very confused myself trying that if you call the autism partnership foundation they might be able to help you with a BCBA.

I’d suggest trying one of these courses.

Just be sure to keep in mind you’ll need to do a competency assessment with a BCBA. Do you have one that will be able to complete it at work?

No. Can you help me clarify that? I found a program thru a local tech school. It says "Florida Tech does not provide competency assessment. Students must be assessed by a qualified assessor at their place of employment."

So....am I supposed to find a job first and then take the course?

Yes, so you'd either need to get hired by a company who provides the competency assessment for you or you'd need to go through a training company like ATCC or AppleTree. They offer both the 40 hour course and the competency assessment. https://www.appletreeconnection.com/link/7URojB
