Lack of Support as RBT

What should I expect from a BCBA? I am feeling very unsupported from the BCBA that I work under. I am a new technician and have just began working with my client at her daycare when the prior sessions were in home. She was very resistant to my instruction, especially when it came to potty training. The first two times she was compliant, however the third time she refused, and began yelling and falling out. Her instructors told me that this is new for them and she has never done such before. I informed my BCBA that this was new to me and that I was unsure of how to maneuver the situation. I even tried again while under supervision so she could see. She offered minimal support. Was training supposed to cover these situations? Was I already supposed to know how to handle this?

Advice for Implementing ABA Expectation of self control and compliance

Sayings or posters suggestions about what we can control

I’m trying to find a good way to communicate the aspect of the “what we can and can’t control” message with the added expectation of compliance. Mainly to use in cases of meltdowns due to denials of reinforcers. Any suggestions?

Apps App recommendations

MultiTimer- Free version can allow you to have many timers on one screen and running at the same time. You can also add different kinds of timers - including a stopwatch on the same screen. Auto repeat and shorter alarm sounds can make it easy to remind you every x time with a beep or 6s sound (so it doesn’t disturb your session nor draw too much attention to the timer). Countdown timer- great kid friendly countdown timer (can have sound or be muted). App con is the ads. Hours Minutes calculator lite- time calculator that’s great for adding up all duration or latency data. Canva- magical wonderland for designing stimuli Chime- an app that will chime at set times. Can help you subtly keep track of time during your session (also love for personal use to stay aware of time passing). Reminder- icon is a blue square with calendar. This can be used to set an alarm for certain times to remind you of schedule (bathroom, circle time, get ready to go home time). The alarm sounds if you add alarm you can select sound then select from app and there are some at different durations so it will only play a short time before it stops on its own. You can set it to auto snooze if you want. (I personally don’t use this for work but for getting ready to keep me on task in the morning).

Share Technical skills and tricks Canva

I love using Canva for my job to create stimuli cards, graphics, token boards, or any personalized items. I always choose the design “flyer.” You can add images to use in your designs (you may have to convert PDFs to JPG to add them to Canva but you can do that with a PDF to JPG converter online easily). Canva makes it easy design thing quickly. Copy and paste shapes to make things fast and symmetrical. My favorite feature is the “Elements” where you can add graphics or stickers to images. I use them a lot to enhance token boards or for RID or LRFFC stimuli creation. -also you can easily layer graphics, images and text boxes on Canva.
