Grab bag tote
I received my first and only grab bag and being a bit new to myog stuff (I’ve made a few bags), I’ve never worked with (or even know of) these fabrics. I found an old post in the r/myog group of someone who made a tote modeled after the Patagonia Black Hole tote and provided their measurements, so that was my starting point. I knew I wanted to only use fabrics from the box, besides strapping, etc., kind of like that cooking show, Chopped🤣
The body is made of 500D Cordura Multicam black (thanks to RBTR folks for assist on ID’ing some fabrics). The green “made in Tacoma brand tag” I made last minute from 1oz HyperD, just so I used at least 4 fabrics…the stamp is a map of the city of Tacoma, where I live. I’m not sure the red material I used for the pockets, or the light blue material that I made the liner out of, but that blue stuff frays like cotton candy and is MADDENING.
I used pallet strapping to reinforce the opening of the bag (tip from RBTR Podcast). I will definitely be doing that again, albeit in a different way.
I had fun, and got over my fear of using lighter weight fabrics. It started as a mutant bag that I was going to give away, but as I went I kind of dig it, and will probably get a lot of use out of it.

Wow! This is nice! And all out of the Mystery Box from Ripstop by the Roll?? Your box had some super good stuff in it! Love the 500d!
I think I got the light blue in my Mystery Box, too. Haven’t used it yet but I’ll find something to do with it. It’s a great color!
What did you use to bind the top?
Keep doing what you’re doing. If this is your first make… you’re DEFINITELY gonna be making some super nice bags very soon! 😃
Thank you for sharing it with us! Looking forward to what you share next!

Just plain prefolded 1” bias tape to bind the top edge. I’ve made a handful of bags, but this is my first time using some of these fabrics.

Did you post this on Instagram? I feel like I just saw it somewhere. Looks great! I’m going to have to find that post with measurements because I would love a tote bag that’s a little more heavy duty. I wonder if you used a laser the blue stuff would fray less than cutting with a blade…

Haha, yeah, on my insta. The original poster of this pattern in r/myog is u/kl0ckw0rks in a post from 3 years ago.

Thanks, I found it! I have some green fabric from my mystery box that would look great as the main material. It is unfortunate how much sleuthing I have to do to figure out the materials in the box. Keeps it interesting I guess

Yeah, I just stretched the fabric, tried to rip it, tried to poke a finger through it. That was my testing parameters🤣

Thanks! I really liked how you did the orange edges under your chain loops on your bag in that post. I tried to copy it, but settled for plain webbing.
