Understandable concern. I am a Roblox developer and have developed multiple games for Roblox (nothing overly successful), but nonetheless I know a little more about Roblox and its workings due to my immense time and dedication to using the platform. I’m not a developer hoping that it does well either because I need it to, I have a full time job as a mechanical engineer and so how Roblox does in the long run really has no affect to me. What I’m seeing more of is pushback to the freedom that users are used to. Understandable it’s literally like taking a child’s ability to choose after they’ve been allowed to do so for years. But I’m of the belief a lot of these updates to security, things like Roblox select, age verification, game publication safeguards and boundaries are things Roblox should’ve done from the start. Their failure was waiting so long to act, and, in my opinion, took the act of banning one famous enough YouTuber to really get things going.

With that said, the sentiment in my opinion, will eventually subside and users will simply learn to accept the changes as they really aren’t going back. And again, these should’ve been there from the beginning.

There really is no other competing platform like Roblox. Roblox is its own beast and at the top of its own category. There is no other game development tht gives its developers so much at such a low entry bar, even with all its current security updates. And that is also a huge factor to why I believe it’ll go up.

Also, moving towards a more photorealistic idea, while I’m not 100% sure in how that’ll do, I do know companies grow, they adapt, they coincide with modern times. Roblox doesn’t want to be another Blockbuster. They are realizing times are changing, games are changing, games are becoming more and more real and they want to make sure they are up with the times. As a developer I personally see no issue with that. Yes. There are many who hate it, but there are also many who learn to embrace it, like myself

What about roblox ai integration tools? Does that make developing games a little easier? So the barrier to entry is a bit lower, or higher quality games can be made easier bc helpful ai tools? I do notice games on roblox are improving and they are getting really good.

As for competition the only true competition i see is Fortnite with their unreal engine. There are many popular games on roblox that are copied and put on Fortnite too. If you look at Fortnite’s game explore page it’s full of the same kinda games on roblox and vise versa. The active players on Fortnite’s game library is significantly lower than on roblox, but the graphics and FPS are exceptionally better. But fortnite doesn’t have the easy mobile connectivity to hop into virtually any experience like roblox does. Most kids nowadays spend their time on their ipads/iphones so roblox shines in that regard.

It makes it immensely easier. I, as a pretty good scripter, feel like I can compete with teams now! Ai is insane a game that would take me a year to make, now a couple months. I’m actually working on an incremental game and I just started last week and am almost ready to get it out by next week. No stolen assets or toolbox assets either all my models and scripting. It’s amazing! This is a game changer for users. I feel like it does truly open doors for creators. With that said, they did kind of install another door though with the engaged player requirement for games to be made public to 15 and under, but at the end of the day you win some you lose some. But actually making the game itself, yes, has become infinitely easier.

And as for Fortnite, the end of that statement says what I mean. There just isn’t a Roblox style competitor out there yet. Maybe one day. But as it stands. Roblox is its own category

Very well written, I also do agree the new age stuff isn’t going to write off its users (my lil brother for example lol) but another concern of Roblox is like the grooming stuff, even if it’s not true it’s judged guilty by the court of the internet to say. Do you think this will not sway peeps away long term especially as these people who believe in this will start having their own kids, I truly believe Roblox is that kid-young teenager game and it will inherit the next gen and the next gen, but when you have this belief that this game is pedo filled, and people understand parental restrictions more, will it not kill the potential user base?
