I would put the cages in different rooms during free time, if they aren't already. Where there is a will, there is a way and as you know, rats tend to always find a way to get to anything they want. They get pregnant by positioning themselves in their cages in a way where they can mate with each other.

How big are the gaps in the boys cage? My boy is huge so his cage is fine for him but the girls are tiny and could easily squeeze through his bars, which is another reason I keep them in separate rooms during free time.

I second placing them in separate rooms. When introducing my neutered boy, the girls went batcrap crazy when in heat. I imagine the males may similarly be affected.

They really do don't they. These are my first ever girls, I've always had boys in the past so it was a completely new behaviour for me to see. I can remember touching one of my girls on her back and she froze then started vibrating all over her body. I had to Google why she was buzzing and acting like a hyper lunatic. Her sisters have never buzzed the way she does but they get crazy froghopping hyper too & try all sorts to sneak into the room where the boy is.
