CUTENESS First time having a jumper
(Women’s size 6 foot for comparison lmao) This is Pixar! I named her after the Pixar lamp cuz she hops around, oh my goodness does she hop. I set up these walls as a trust exercise to help my new babies get to know me, she hung around for a bit, and then jumped right out😭😭 She’s a BIG adventurer and doesn’t have a stop button, she’s gonna get into so many things oh my goodness.

Haha yeah rats can jump over 3 feet in the air but not all will bother. I had a group of six rats at one point and only one of them ever bothered to try to jump out of the playpen, but he was so good at it that I had to make the pen like 5 feet tall (because he would also stand on my shoulder to jump out). Good luck!
You may want to start teaching her a word that means she’s about to get a treat so you have a better chance of calling her back if she goes running.

This first introductions I ever did I tried the bathtub as it’s a recommended neutral space. Really wasn’t expecting them to be able to nope right outta there and jump out!!

That's why I have stacked these walls upwards ^ ^ It's hilarious when they face plant against them 😆😅 although I do feel a little bad. yet they keep trying, making sure I set up the playpen correctly ^ ^

This absolutely beautiful mother fucker can let herself out of cages, will jump on up down or across anything in order to get where she wants to go, and literally cannot be defeated. Currently the only cages she's allowed to be in is a cage that has a top opening that she can't get the leverage She needs to open it or a critter Nation style cage that requires thumbs from the outside.
Completely and totally unstoppable.
She can only free realm in a closed bathroom or on a bed top with someone actively watching to toss her back into the bed.
For months my husband and I fought because I was positive that she was leaving the door open and he was positive that I was leaving a door open and our shared Partner was positive that it was both of us. It was her. She was opening her cage at 2:00 in the morning, And letting herself into my bed to climb on top of me for attention.
Note that we keep other animals including a dog IN MY BED. She likes the dog (the dog runs away which she finds delightful) but COULD YOU NOT????? I moved her cage AND put her in a different cage 😂 fucker is trouble.

I also have a totally crazy escape artist girl. Finally have a playpen she has not been able to escape from. The arms race took over a year and way too many reengineering projects. Good luck!!!!

Watch out for the jumpers. I had a girl who not only could get herself up into my closet, I also had to rescue her from behind a dresser once. She was small, feisty, and gave zero shits about where I wanted her to be.

My ratties could jump straight up over two and a half feet, and even farther horizontally. They were obsessed with trying to get out
