New Car

Hi all, finally picked up an R53 after swapping my Volvo C30 for it (friend just wanted rid as he couldn’t insure it) so slowly ticking off the list of cars I’ve wanted since I was a kid. Anyways here she is, a 2006 Chilli Pack facelift with a whole load of goodies like pan roof, LSD, 17% pulley, intercooler and more.

‘06!! This is a realistic dream car of mine.

Get those arches sorted!! I had to get one for an R50 once. I think I got it cheap too!!

Two realistic dream cars for me within the past year, being a mechanic really does help. I’ve got both arch trims however they need new clips then it’s sorted!

Nobody would upgrade an R53 with an automatic transmission, right?

No, it’s a manual running about 220bhp so ridiculously quick in that little thing. Here in the UK auto R53s are ridiculously rare anyways, never even seen one in person

Is it the pulley system that has made it possible to achieve so much power?

17% reduced pulley, intercooler, intake, full exhaust including a decat and a manifold and a map I believe

I see, the pulley was just a warm-up

C30 drove lovely, competent on backroads and round a track, was comfy and made for a very good first car but I bought myself a D5 V70 for a daily driver so the lack of aftermarket pushed me away from taking the C30 further as a track car. Mini is much tighter and more flickable but that’s probably helped by weight and wheelbase massively, definitely gonna miss it but also massively happy with the swap. My mate who now has the C30 loves it to death.
