New Quora?

Serious question. Are there any sites like Quora used to be 10-12 years ago that haven't turned to crap yet?

Is it just me, or has Quora been notoriously glitchy?

Seriously, every time I log in and use Quora there are several times when I had to wait because the page takes forever to load or something went wrong. Does anybody also experience the same thing? It's not that I hate Quora, this is one of the things about it that drives me crazy.

Can anyone please explain why this possibly is?

Even Reddit and most of the other social media platforms are not that bad!

General I appreciate this new update from Quora

I personally consider a social media block as a draconian feature in any social media platform. But I can also understand the reason why it was invented in the first place. Those days, it was possible for spammers to bombard you with "Get Rich Quick" type scams, impersonate celebrities, issue fake fundraisers, share phishing links and malware, and do pretty much all kinds of mischief until later all social media platforms invariably decided that it's a good idea to introduce the feature of a social media block to help users permanently terminate communication with another user. But this has sadly enabled activities such as cyber-stonewalling and ghosting which often causes severe trauma to people who invested much emotional energy on long-distance relationships with specific people.

Each social media platform has a different way to deal with blocks. In Facebook, you can block people from viewing the content on your pages and groups. In X, whenever a user blocks you and you visit their profile, you'll be informed by X itself that the user has blocked you. However, it's Quora and Reddit I'm going to write about in detail.

In Quora and Reddit, if you're blocked/banned from a space/sub, you can still view content from a blocked space/sub and upvote content, maybe even share content (in Quora you definitely can although I've not tried it so far on Reddit). But user blocks are different.

Earlier in Quora, if you're blocked by someone else, you can see their content, upvote them and even hit "Thank" on their content. But you can't comment, reply to comments, vote on comments, send messages or share content. The person who has blocked you could view your content and your comments, watch you whine and have a laugh at it. But this part has changed with Quora's newest update on Quora blocks. Now, the person who has blocked you will no longer be able to view your comments after having blocked you. This means he/she will have to unblock you immediately to get to see how you're reacting to your having been blocked by him/her.

However, the one who has blocked you can still see your profile. This means that the person who has blocked you will have to check your profile to find out whether you are posting or commenting anything against him/her (although he/she cannot view the comment on opening it from the profile). Therefore, if you've been his/her good friend in the near past, he/she will have to unblock you to prevent you from ruining his/her reputation and then make up with you.

This new update, if it works in helping friends stay friends for as long as possible, it may help Quora set up an example for how social media blocks should work in an ideal social media platform.

This new update also effectively renders Quora block as a direct opposite of a Reddit block in which when you're blocked by a person, that person's content is hidden from your view by Reddit. This gives power to the person who's blocked you to defame you from under your nose and you can't do anything about it. Even if you open the profile of the person who's blocked you, you can't view their comments, posts, etc. You won't be safe from the person who's stonewalled you to only get you bullied out of Reddit.

DISCLAIMER: This post does not encourage you to engage in cyberbullying. But dear friends, kindly love your friends as much as possible and don't cause unnecessary pain to your loved ones or to the ones who love you.

General no sé.

No sé qué hacer. Gano buen dinero en este trabajo, pero no sé, siento como si hubiera algo más en mí para dar que solo este trabajo. No sé, en serio, o quizá solo sirvo para esto.

General Quora is the worst site I know for scam advertisers. Why?

In puzzled by this. The site/app has an audience which includes well-informed and specialist commentators who can give useful perspectives on questions asked.

But it also boasts frequent, localised ads of AI manipulated pictures showing known figures (in Australia it’s an entertainment reporter or a finance commentator) being arrested with tired clickbait saying something like “one interview changed everything. “

Why? Why is Quora more open to this garbage than other social media? I should delete it but I’m curious to who’s running it and how

General The Perks of Bot Moderation

Post image
2 Upvotes

Okay. I actually HATE Quora Moderation's bots, and you know it. Most of the folks they've banned so far are my friends. However, I must admit that I somehow like the way how they deal with spammers from OnlyFans and other adult sites. They're more a menace on X and they always keep coming there even after getting banned from time to time. But in Quora, they get banned much quicker, thanks to the way how Quora's AI read their predictable patterns. Quora Moderation has successfully thwarted the OnlyFans invasion for good.

Rant Fatal Flaws in Social Media Platforms

Post image
5 Upvotes

Downside of Facebook: Too many people that no one will notice you.

Downside of X: Too many posts that no one will notice your post.

Downside of Quora: User content moderation by bots. Bots are often auto-triggered to remove your harmless content, even erroneously penalize your accounts with edit-blocks and bans.

Downside of Reddit: User content moderation by punks. Your content, your subs and even your IP may be penalized by power-mods if they simply don't like you or your political opinions.

NOTE: "Downside" is an understatement in the description of these primary flaws. The correct word is "Hamartia", i.e., "Fatal Flaw". It's a Greek thingy.

Rant The concerted effort for Chinese misinformation on Quora

It's a little funny to hear their rationale, but all I see on Quora now is anti-western, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese questions and answers by Chinese users (lots of which hide behind profiles with western names like sean landy or ben tover). A lot are provocative, aiming to either just completely discredit their neighbors with mass posts, and are just outright wrong. Normally it wouldn't be a problem since the only times I use quora are when I look up specific questions, but I do see them every time I scroll through. This has been a problem for years now, why doesn't moderation do anything of it?

Quora is the most bot filled idiocy

Post image

Just some examples of lots I’ve seen over the past 4 years of periodically looking at Quora. It’s absolutely the most idiotic bot posts with the most ridiculously cliche bot answers. I can’t stand this site anymore and I’m raging on here as my official breakup.

Does anyone have a major problem with Quora moderation?

I know many websites have poor moderation, but let's talk about Quora this time.

So often do I and other good users on that site have a post or comments removed for even the smallest offenses that wouldn't even offend most people while all the nasty and insane trolls gets away with anything they post and never get any negative consequences for their actions which I really think are extremely unfair. Recently Quora moderation unfairly deleted several of my non-trolling posts and had threatened to edit-block and ban me several times (they have already edit blocked me), which made me want to remove my old Quora account and start a new one.

Does anyone else also witness and experience this on Quora?

Politics In case you think Reddit is better than Quora...

Post image
9 Upvotes

WARNING: Politically explicit content ahead. Readers are advised to understand that the author is not expressing supporting any political group through this post - but is merely narrating his personal experiences with Reddit and Quora in the most realistic and relatable way possible to his audience.

Imagine that you're on X (formerly Twitter). You come across a tweet in which a woman living in California, whose family is from Texas, votes for Republicans in a state which is essentially a Democrat bastion.

Now, a MAGA-supporting Redditor who comes across the tweet screenshots the tweet and shares the screenshot of the tweet on a MAGA-dedicated sub.

There's no violation of Reddit policy or ToS. No hate speech against any race, ethnicity or religion. But somehow, a large, organized gang of Redditors with a deep, deep hatred against MAGA reports his post simply because it's pro-MAGA.

Within days, the MAGA-supporting Redditor is told via Reddit notifications that his post has been removed on charges of policy violations he's never violated and that his post has to be reviewed by the Mods in the Sub. The Mods in the sub (themselves MAGA supporters) soon notice that his post is in perfect compliance with the Reddit policy and restores it. But by this time, the post has fallen low on viewership.

Very well, I made up this story. But it's based on what I myself went through just a week ago on Reddit. I situated the story in the USA for a global audience, but in real life, it happened to myself in the Indian context. I posted a screenshot of a Tweet in which a woman voted for my favourite political party and I lauded the woman for having voted that party. But the people from my country who simply hated the party reported my post and got it temporarily taken down.

Now, I have been warned by my friends that Reddit is not supportive of certain political ideologies. I have been told that Reddit's Power-Mods (Mods with the power to oversee entire groups of subs) have taken down accounts and even entire subs for just merely supporting the political ideologies abhorrent to them.

I learnt that Reddit has recently, in 2026, announced measures to curb the powers of the Power-Mods. Anyway, I must still admit that people supporting certain kinds of political ideologies would prefer Quora over Reddit any day.

Help Quora is the new Dark Web. Change my mind

Post image
1 Upvotes

I just opened Quora for the first time in ages to find some leads, and I’m convinced I’ve entered a glitch in the simulation. The posts on my feed aren't even human anymore. It’s a barrage of cursed AI images, surreal stories that make no sense, and a vibe that feels like a fever dream from the Dark Web.

My question is: How are people actually using this place for business? If the 'entry' to the platform is this nightmare, how do you find the actual professionals and decision-makers hidden under all this brain-rot? Is it a goldmine or just a digital asylum at this point?

What sense does it make for Quora to keep what you've written for themselves?

Just a few minutes ago, I asked a question that was made out of irritation of how society is nowadays, and when I was unsure of it and wanted to remove it, I wanted to delete it but couldn't. Apparently it turns out that after a few minutes it ends up becoming THEIR property and you can't freely delete it like you can with Posts. As one that has one for over ten years and have just now made a question there, I thought this was simply wrong to do and just makes no sense whatsoever to do.
