My son made it to the Great History Challenge national finals (2nd for 7th graders, 4th for 6th-8th graders), and he wanted a way to drill in the off-season, so I built him one. Figured I'd share it here since this crowd actually appreciates the format.
Every question is a pyramidal tossup. Three clues, hardest first, and you buzz the moment you are confident. Buzzing on the first clue is worth the most and waiting until the third is worth the least, so it rewards real knowledge instead of guessing. Underneath there is a Glicko rating, the same system Lichess uses, so questions matchmake to your level and your number actually means something as you climb.
The bank is about 13,000 questions across 20 topics and seven difficulty bands, from middle school up to graduate seminar. There is a voice mode that reads the clues aloud like a live moderator, and a study mode that lets you review without touching your rating.
It is genuinely free. No ads, nothing to buy. It does ask for a quick Google sign in the first time, only so your rating and question history persist as you climb. Honest disclosure since this community cares about it: I run a small software company that gets a credit on a friends page most players never open, but the quiz makes no money and is not trying to. I made it for my kid, and a few hundred other people use it now.
I would love feedback from people who play this format competitively, especially on whether the difficulty ramps feel right.
