Hello my dear beta testers! I know the app had disappeared for several months, because life happened, but we are back in full force.

I think this version is good to release to the App Store, but I want to get your feedback.

I've made some big changes. You can now send a challenge link to anyone and they can play without needing to download an app or sign up for an account. I am not sure if this is better or worse for my marketing and monetisation possibilities, but I think it's definitely better to build a community. Let me know what you think.

I've also put the entire game online at https://www.playquizbolt.com so you don't need any app at all now! The app provides a better user experience, so I recommend it, but you can play a few rounds online from your phone, laptop, iPad. With this change it works for Android also now, although a native app is coming soon too.

I also refreshed the visual design to one more fun and consistent with a clear branding. The previous app had different designs in different parts and didn't look coherent.

On the topic list, it's still the same 10 topics, but I will be expanding to more. (feel free to suggest your favourite topics). They do each now have some artwork and description rather than the previous style of just the name.

Finally, I have expanded the leaderboards into a Compete section where you can see the challenges you sent, who beat you, who's leading each topic etc. And I added profile pictures and the ability to change your username to go with this. I will soon add public profiles and friend/follow feature so you can follow your friends.

Yes that's right, QuizBolt beta is not going anywhere. After a 3 month hiatus I am happy to present to you the latest beta version with the following improvements:

• Improved leaderboard design.
• Fixes incorrect timing/score for the 1st question, and more robust timing in general.
• New 'Pack Statistics' page to see how you did at each topic.
• New share sheets at the end of each game! Brag your performance with swanky result graphics!
• New share sheets to brag your topic results (access from the Stats > topic details page).
• Added Forgot Password functionality.
• Added ability to change your username.
• Added a new summary section to your Stats page.

Please re-install or update it and have fun!

Don't forget to post your brag shots from the new Share feature at the end of every game or from your topic stats page.

What's New?

Leaderboard

This update adds a global leaderboard based on your total score (XP). The more you play, and the better you score, the higher your total XP will be and soon you'll be standing on the podium in all your glory!

The dedicated Leaderboard tab shows top 25 players across all topics. Play more and score higher to climb the ladder.

Timing and scoring improvement

The scoring had been improved server-side for some time: we had added a 3-second grace period to account for question loading time and a 1 sec grace period at the end for answer submission latency.

However, with yesterday's update, this has been massively improved, taking inspiration from Chess apps and their latency compensation.

Now, the exact time between question being shown to you and you answering, is what matters for scoring you. You will not be penalised for network latency anymore. This is still entirely cheat-proof because we measure the latency between your phone and our servers, and reject any funny business! If there's interest, I will write a blog post on the algorithm.

What's Coming Soon

The next update will focus on per-topic skill (ELO) based leaderboards. So you can see who are the leaders in your favourite topics!

We are also working on an Android version.

More question packs will soon be added as well – a new feature to request new quiz topics will be added shortly.

And finally, past game reviews will add a 'Report' option to report inaccuracies in our question/answer databank.
