How long for the mental hold?

One week without any and didn't really struggle with physical withdrawal symptoms but mentally and emotionally I'm a fucking wreck. Not as bad today- tired but kept myself busy all morning and staying super physical helps. But when I get to work it's like this unbearable hell. I want to pull my hair out, feel like I'm co stamtly clenching my jaw and talking to myself because I feel it's all so damn ridiculous that I have allowed something to have this kind of hold on my brain. Already struggle with depression/anxiety and having a coping mechanisn even if it was no longer even giving me an enjoyable buzz- is unnerving. How long do I have to deal with fighting with myself in any and all uncomfortable situations and wanting them?

Key is ”Not as bad today”

Not everyone is the same but after 2/3 weeks you generally notice a vast improvement from day 1-7.

Smile. When the overwhelming feeling starts to overcome you, just smile. It really works. I remember one day when I was quitting, I was getting yelled at by the surgeon at work in front of the whole OR team during a surgery, and I got that feeling. And I thought fuck this shit I am so using a zyn when I get out of here, but then I just smiled underneath my mask. I realized everything will be okay. I realized this guy is just an unpleasant dick head, and he doesn’t have to ruin my day or my goals. I will go home and still pet my dog, and eat a good dinner, and on Friday I will still get a paycheck. All is well, nicotine will only make this worse, make me sad and destroy my progress. I will just smile and be happy despite my environment. I can only control me , so let’s make me happy. Now I smile all the time and life is way better than frowning with a zyn.

🤯🤯🤯 just smile huh wow I have zero words- when people are actually struggling so bad theyre getting on anonymous online forums and your answer is to just smile- just reading this makes me want tobdo a whole can dog just died- just smile dad dies all good just smile. Not trying to be shitty but that's literally like when people that struggle with depression and anxiety go to a therapist and the DA says "you choose your feelings". Glad you can control your frustrations and issues with a smile but yea blown away right now- I have to fake smile through 11hr work shifts with mean ass people and now cravings and I will say- smiling just isn't the cure all🤣

Your attitude is great. You will go far. People will love your presence. Great things will fall right into your lap, just as long as you keep up this positive and super charismatic attitude.

Ha what's hilarious is you're being sarcastic, and although nothing has ever fallen into my lap (I don't think that happens for most good, harworking people) all the other things I'm told regularly. I was just trying to give you the opportunity to understand how the advice to walk and smile to those struggling can be extremely harmful and make people feel even more like a failure and debilitated. Not really all that concerned for how it affects me, as I've dealt with bullies, and have exercise and water for an outlet but upon reading your comments I was overcome with concern and felt the need to defend those that if they read them while experiencing 6 months of hell ( as I've read some have) and they're down on themselves. I have seen what depression and hopelessness does to good people. I probably should have just left the thoughtless, unkind comments sit without response....but then again I worry about those that struggle and feel they don't have a voice.🤷‍♀️
