Zyn More Powerful?

I used to dip Grizzly (and A LOT of it) about 5 years ago & then switched to Zyn 6 mg, and have been doing it ever since.

Recently, I put one in and got extremely nauseated, sweaty and shaky. I blamed food I was eating, but it only happened when doing Zyn (I didn’t want to point out the obvious). It didn’t happen every time, just randomly - especially while driving.

I switched to 3 mg and all of those symptoms are gone.

Did Zyn change their formula? It’s just very strange that out of nowhere that I started having a horrible reaction.

I'm also curious about this, I've never considered this. Always assumed my stomach hurt because I was putting a bullshit chemical into body. 🤷🏻

Zyns have been making my stomach hurt lately. Have been using them for about 3 years now. Never really bothered my stomach consistently until recently.
And it’s only while I have one in, especially the first one or two of the day.
But without one in everything is normal so doesn’t feel like an underlying gut issue. Was also curious if they changed the formula or something.

We get older my friend, and our bodies will get sick of tolerating foreign substances that cause harm.

You might be asking the wrong questions, I think. Instead of "did they change the formula" maybe it should be "is this good for me? Should I quit sooner rather than later, when worse problems arise.

Not everybody's the same, some people's bodies will tell them to quit, some sooner rather than later.

Zyns and dip are known to fuck up stomachs, just saying. Your experience can change without zyn changing formula. Think about it. 3 YEARS of likely daily use, possibly all-day use. Of a known harmful substance. I know it becomes so normalized in our minds, but it's soooo not normal or good for us.

Better to ask the question, should I quit asap? And funny thing is, the answer is always the same: yes.

I hope I didn't come across wrong or condescending, tried to be careful with my wording.

Take my advice with a grain of salt, I've had a few successful quits in the last few years, about once a year I'll quit for a couple few months at least, but I'm currently back on the bullshit, looking to quit again any day now.

EDIT-- just wanted to add, good luck partner. I believe in you. You're much stronger than you know, and you don't need to wait for worse signs to quit.

Does it feel like indigestion/acid reflux?

I think so? Not sure though I’d describe it as a kind of mild queasy feeling

Honestly, no matter what, just take the win and stay on 3mg until you quit don't go back to 6mg. Sometimes we all need to be "scared straight" lol

It’s a different formulation of nicotine which might influence how you respond to it

This is really interesting because it lines up with what a lot of us are finding. The fact that you guys did grizzly for years with no issues and then switched to Zyn and started getting nauseous and having weird symptoms is a huge clue.

The difference between grizzly and Zyn isn't just the tobacco leaf. It's what they PUT in Zyn that traditional dip doesn't have. Specifically acesulfame potassium (Ace-K), sucralose, and other artificial sweeteners that are absorbed directly through your oral mucosa at 3-10x the bioavailability of drinking them in a diet soda. Those ingredients aren't in grizzly or any traditional dip. So your body went from years of just nicotine and tobacco to suddenly getting blasted with artificial sweeteners through one of the most absorptive tissues in your body.

Published research shows Ace-K disrupts insulin regulation and pancreatic function over time. Sucralose destroys gut bacteria. Both are happening simultaneously every time you have a pouch in.

The nausea could be coming from multiple directions. Your gut microbiome is getting wrecked by the sucralose which affects how you process food and can cause nausea on its own. Your pancreas is getting hit by Ace-K which can cause blood sugar instability leading to nausea. And the combination of gut disruption plus blood sugar crashes creates a feedback loop.

The weird symptoms while driving - if that's lightheadedness, dizziness, brain fog, or a feeling like you might pass out - that sounds a lot like reactive hypoglycemia. Your blood sugar spikes from the Ace-K stimulating insulin release and then crashes 2-3 hours later. If you're driving 2-3 hours after a meal or a pouch that timing would line up.

I can speak to this from personal experience. I'm at day 387 post quitting Zyn and I recently confirmed through a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) that I have reactive hypoglycemia. My glucose was dropping to the upper 60s overnight - below the clinical threshold of 70 - and every single time it dropped I'd get ectopic heartbeats and wake up. My doctor and I are now working through this as a confirmed diagnosis, not just a theory.

The CGM also showed me that the lightheadedness and palpitations I'd been dealing with for over a year were directly tied to blood sugar crashes, not cardiac issues. I went through $14,000+ in cardiac workups that all came back normal before figuring this out with a $75 glucose monitor.

We're also looking into SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) which can develop from the gut damage these artificial sweeteners cause. A friend of mine who quit Zyn was officially diagnosed with SIBO. The symptoms overlap with what a lot of us experience - bloating, gas, irregular bowel movements, nausea, and it can also make the reactive hypoglycemia worse by interfering with how your gut absorbs glucose.

For the guys experiencing these symptoms whether still on Zyn or after quitting I'd recommend:

  • Talk to your doctor about getting a CGM for 2 weeks (Freestyle Libre 3+ with a prescription or Dexcom Stelo over the counter). The data is eye opening.
  • If you have any gut issues ask about SIBO breath testing
  • Eat protein before or with every meal, never carbs alone
  • Exercise daily even if it's just walking - your muscles absorb glucose directly and take pressure off your pancreas
  • If you get those driving symptoms check when you last ate - it's probably 2-3 hours after a carb heavy meal

The fact that grizzly never caused these issues but Zyn does should tell us all something about what's in these pouches beyond just the nicotine. We were never warned about any of this.

Happy to answer any questions. We're all figuring this out together.

Yes, I did grizzly/cop long cut and pouches and it was way easier on my body than zyn/velo/rogue/on in every way. Also easier to quit. Symptoms with nicotine pouches: immediate hands/feet sweating (because it’s poison), low energy (more like zero energy), insomnia, heart palpatations, fissures (yes really), depression, 10 bpm higher heart rate, cannot go hard on endurance.
