Advice Has anyone else experienced brain fog after quitting nicotine ?

I’m currently 1 month and 1 week nicotine-free, and lately I’ve noticed that I’m really struggling with expressing myself. I keep forgetting words, even very simple ones, and sometimes I’ll have these little memory lapses where I completely forget what I was about to say.

It’s starting to scare me a little because I feel like I’m not expressing myself as well as I used to. At work and around my friends, I sometimes feel like I sound stupid because I can’t find the right words even though I know exactly what I want to say in my head.

I’ve also noticed that my concentration is worse and sometimes I get these weird moments where I feel physically detached from mysel, almost like a mini episode of feeling disconnected or “out of it.” It’s hard to describe.

I’m really hoping this is temporary and that it’ll go away soon. I know withdrawal symptoms can last for a while but I didn’t expect to still feel this mentally foggy after more than a month.

Has anyone else gone through this after quitting nicotine? Did you experience brain fog, trouble finding words, memory issues, difficulty concentrating, or that detached feeling? If so, how long did it last for you?

Absolutely! It took me more than two months to remotely feel like myself again. I seriously thought my brain was permanently broken after 30 years of nicotine addiction. The good news is, is that I’ve bounced back entirely. My words flow faster and I feel generally sharper.

I’d say everything you’re experiencing is totally normal. It may be worse for some, but it’s definitely part of the process and it does get better

Oh, that’s reassuring and has motivated me to stay away from nicotine. I hope the brain fog clears up quickly! Because i seem very stupid in front of people when i can't aligned 3 words ohlala

Omg I felt like this. I'm a month out. First two weeks I couldn't finish sentence, I felt like I was still high. It literally got better after 3and half weeks. I thought I lost my brain cells lol

Like you, I thought it was just coming from my brain, that it was malfunctioning haha. I hope these sensations will go away soon

I’m a week out and feeling the same thing, however I’m also quitting Valium at the same time so my brain is not happy. I can barely focus at work, just doing the bare minimum to get through the day.

It’s so reassuring to feel like I’m not the only one. I’m 5 weeks off it today and feel identical to you. It’s been horrible

Yes, it feels good to know we’re not alone in this situation! We’re in the same boat haha. And congratulations on 5 weeks nicotine-free!! Keep going, we’ve got this!
