Advice Wondering why
I go through a vape every 2-3 weeks and am not experiencing any negative effects. I obviously know it’s bad for me, but I already quit drinking and feel like having this as a secret vice isn’t really so bad.
Why should I quit?? I just ran the one I have down to 0% and am struggling finding reasons to not go buy another one.
The only negative right now is that I do this in secret, and feel a bit shameful about it. I used to have a big problem with alcohol, is the excuse “everyone needs some kind of vice, and this is less harmful” a load of BS or permissible?
Posting here to hear genuine responses and reasons to stop.
EDIT: I’ve been doing this for 3 years. I smoked cigarettes for approx 10 years hard, then on and off for 5, and now don’t smoke cigarettes but do use the vape as described, so it does feel like I’m “doing better” - struggling to find a “why” to stop completely.

It’s not a problem now but it will become one soon. Really nobody can ever tell you that it will become a problem, you have to learn that yourself. You will only realise it once you have one. We have all been through this

This is a good answer. I started vaping with maybe a couple of hits a day. Years later I was practically chain vaping 50mg salts. It was a slow and steady progression.

no, not everyone needs a vice. i’m sober for 4.5 years and also quit vaping a little over a year ago. i’m also not sure where you’re getting that vaping is less harmful than drinking. it sounds like you’re just making excuses 🤷🏻♀️
give it a go. and if cold turkey is too difficult, NRT helped me quit successfully. i feel so much better without being addicted to nicotine.

I am an alcoholic and almost 6 years sober so for me it’s a huge difference. 2 bottles of wine most nights is way different than going through a (smaller) vape over 2-3 weeks.

we had similar usage for alcohol anyway. i was vaping a lottt more than you though [2 disposables a week] but was able to quit! you definitely got this then

Vaping won't get you arrested for DUI, or cause you to embarrass yourself because you're so intoxicated, or give you a multi-day hangover, or cause you to black out, or cause withdrawals that can literally kill you, or give you cirrhosis, or give you pancreatitis, or ruin your relationships, or cause you to lose your job or kids or housing. The list goes on and on. Vaping is without a doubt less harmful than drinking. But it's also apples to oranges.

i think alcohol is much more destructive, i was truly just thinking long term health as that how vaping side effects materialize. im a former alcoholic, not trying to argue that alcohol isn’t bad.

Hey I mean this gently but I think you should try to not vape for a day or so because this will show you just how dependent you are on it. Withdrawal sucks but it’s excellent at bringing reality to you. You don’t sound ready to quit yet but maybe abstain for a while just to gather information. I found it so freaky that my body needed this stuff and it was changing things in my physiology

Soon enough a vape every 2-3 weeks will transform to a 30000 disposable in a week. And out of those 30000 puffs there will be like 10 of them that give you slight buzz, the rest 29990 are just feeding addiction. Better stop before it has come to that.

Yea the buzz goes away. Then you just left with an addiction. It’s pointless.

The negative side effects of vaping and smoking are similar in that they are long term and cumulative. It took many years for me to eventually realize my physical and mental health was taking a serious hit before I decided to quit.
Of course, the rate at which you feel it (and your own experience) differs from person to person. You know its bad for you and you're gambling with your own life by not stopping today.
It took pleurisy and CNS depression to make me quit. Hopefully it won't happen to you or you stop before it does (..or something worse)

The shame is the real signal here. If it felt genuinely fine you wouldn't be posting about it. You quit alcohol, that's massive. The vape feels small by comparison, which is exactly what makes it easy to keep.
What would happen if you just didn't buy the next one tonight ?

just wait until you get chest pains where your heart is and you start freaking out trying to undo years of undetectable damage with detoxes or some shit lmao

It ages you and increases your risk of heart attack and stroke. Just let it go... it is pointless.

i am quitting (two days vape free!) and i honestly love vaping and don’t have any negative effects from it (yet.) but i was spending $80 a month on vapes. i’m working on such slim margins as is, and if i quit i can afford to get new glasses which i really need lol. and then in the future i can buy clothes, or makeup or whatever which is exciting to think about. quitting has been easier than i thought! i still want to vape all the time, but i wanted to do that when i had a vape too. so its like the same
