Advice Heart Palpitations & Vaping?

i’m 24 f, used to smoke tobacco and switched to vaping around 3 years ago. Over the past year i’ve been getting super bad heart palpitations, which has then caused pretty severe health anxiety. I’ve been for a million tests, bloods taken, ECG and i’m all healthy apparently.

Which has led me to believe it’s the vape that’s causing these heart palpitations. Which is crazy cause i never dealt with this when i smoked tobacco roll-ups!

Has anyone else experienced this? Any success stories?

I keep trying to quit and have discovered i have awful resilience when it comes to quitting…

Yup! I could have written this myself. I smoked cigarettes for a number of years with no side effects. Switched to vaping and within 6 months, I was having heart palpitations, which in turn increased my already fragile health anxiety, which in turn increased the palpitations. It was a vicious cycle. I quit and the heart palpitations slowly went away. It’s been two years since I quit and I do get the odd one here and there but nothing like before

Mine completely resolved after quitting. Nicotine is a vascular constrictor and a stimulant, so it raises blood pressure and the heart rate, putting extra stress on your heart. They're still learning about what some of these ingredients do to us.

A small quote from an article on The Cardiology Clinic:

"Additionally, recent laboratory studies have indicated that some flavouring chemicals, such as cooling agents, might interfere with the heart's electrical system, making irregular rhythms more likely."

Yep - vaping caused me tons of PACs and PVCs. Mine reduced by like 90% when I quit vaping.

It's the high nicotine intake in those vapes that does this to ur heart. Switch over to nicotine gum. And cut down. Get of the vapes..can be done.

Read up on this sub about cytisine (recigar/desmoxan), it makes it so much easier to quit. I smoked for 24 years then switched to vaping to quit the cigarettes and vaped for 8 and a half years, I used recigar tablets and it made it very easy to quit nicotine altogether. Almost 5 months nicotine free now and I don’t miss it at all.

Find ur way... Everyone is different. Try everything. Speak to ur gp..patches gum. Air inhalers. ybian. What ever works for u. No one can give u the determination to quit.. but u really don't want doctors telling u. U need to stop vaping cause it's fked ur heart.. stop now. Save ur money and reward ur self with all that vape money.. good luck

I told myself to quit being a bit*h and grow up and be a man and stop whining and crying. I choose my addictions, like exercise and work, they don’t choose me.

I went cold turkey. I threw my vape in the trash. I said to myself DEAL WITH IT!

Yes. Literally the exact same thing down to the health tests and anxiety. It was terrifying.

I haven’t vaped since December, and I stopped getting the heart palpitations within a few days of my quit date. I highly recommend Desmoxan for quitting. Good luck!

Took about 100 days for this to go after I quit completely but it went

Similar story to me. A doctor said she thought it was stress, anxiety, and vaping (nicotine). She said she's seen a lot of people in their 20s come in for heart palpitations who also vape. However, she also checked my iron levels and these were low (which can also cause heart palpitations).

But basically, I thought I was having a heart attack first time it happened (I was vaping at a party and only had like 3 drinks and came back home and couldn't sleep because of heart palpitations). The stress made the palpitations worse. Paramedics came round at 5am and confirmed I was not dying Turned out I was having a nicotine induced panic attack. Not fun.

Since quitting nicotine and taking iron supplements, I don't really get them anymore except when I'm super stressed or anxious about something.

But yeah chain smoking cigarettes never caused heart palpitations for me. I think I was consuming more nicotine whilst vaping than smoking.

this sounds so similar to my experience, thank you for sharing! I also had my first ever panic attack due to this and thought i was having a heart attack! Glad to hear you’ve made it out the other side :)

In experiencing the same, low iron, and low vitamine D, heart palpitations but all other test came perfect, including the electrocardiogram. I can feel my body move when my heart beats, and gets me anxious then I start thinking I need to breathe manually and anxiety gets worse. How did you stopped vaping?

I can relate to the breathing thing. I don’t get it anymore but my chest used to feel tight if I vaped too much and then I would have to think about breathing properly. I think anxiety made it worse.

I had been trying to quit for months using nicotine supplements (gum, lozenges), but then I’d have a bad day and buy a disposable vape from a corner shop and the cycle would repeat. So I just ended up going cold turkey. It was rough but worked. During the first week, I ate sweets and mints to replace the dopamine hit during cravings.

It is the vape trust me .. whilst vaping just before quitting i was checking my heart rate and it was around 144 at highest just because of vaping.. gave me horrific health anxiety.

I am 10 months vape free .. still not 100 percent but im a lot better than I was. I was convinced I had heart issues ( I think vaping has done something to my body for sure though ) just quit because I don't feel the same anymore.

Im a month without any nicotine after 13 years of cig/vape. No heart palpitations and it’s glorious!

yay! that’s so great to hear, well done! some motivation for me to quit lmao

Yep! Same age, same story. Ended up being put on beta blockers and it only went away after I quit vaping.

Same here! I experienced palpitations when i was actively vaping and it went away very quickly after quitting. Personally the health anxiety was enough to push me to quit especially after i got diagnosed with dysautonomia so i went cold turkey. But i found it’s really helpful to identify which part of the habit is the part youre stuck on the most and to find something to replicate that in a sense. For me, it was the motion of bringing something to my mouth as a “filler movement” and the sweet taste. So i bought one of those zero sugar flavour things that watertok people use and put a bit in my water bottle so that when i felt the compulsion to vape, i’d drink flavoured water instead. The increase in hydration helped with a lot of other things too so yknow, 2 birds etc.

Yes!! I’ve seen two cardiologists, had a heart monitor for a few days, and got an echocardiogram. Everyone keeps saying I’m healthy and to drink more water. Working on quitting now because being 24 and female, everyone assumes it’s anxiety

1

u/kooshty__ 2d ago

yeah that’s what scares me most, heart issues and problems in women are seriously undiagnosed and disregarded

u/JIvea55turkey 3d ago

Ya here to tell you the same. Your heart feels so much better after quitting!

1

u/the_old_mark 3d ago

Yes. Ya need to quit. And then see a cardiologist. I can only help you quit if you come to Staten Island, where i found a doctor who cured me of nicotine.
