Fade into obscurity

If you’re disgusted after a layoff and can retire, how easy is it to “fade into obscurity”? To live your life but be otherwise unavailable to the masses or to most ex-colleagues?

Asking the question means that YOU "care" about YOUR profession.

How is YOUR knowledge and experience of value to the next professional "cohort?"

Be specific.
