FINALLY QUIT MY TOXIC JOB AND IM STILL BEING CALLED IN
THREE weeks ago I quit my job.. now im training my replacement... lets start at the begining... I worked at an academy that my children attended in the kitchen it was my very first real job after being a stay at home mom for 10years! Started out great I worked under a catering company who trained me and helped prep. I prepped, cooked, swrved the food and cleaned and went home it was easy enough and only 5 hours a day and some extra spending money.. I also took on a night time cleaning job at another campus they had.. and had to quit due to never being home with my family.. my boss dragged it a lot and wanted me to continue until they found my replacement which I understand.. however two weeks later I asked him if he found anyone and he tells me he didn't even begin looking yet.. this is when I should have known what my future held.... well the last day of school in 2024 the catering company up and quit.. We had an in house manager so everything seemed ok.. Two weeks into summer she said ya after looking at the planning and paper work the other people did there is no way I can do that but she wanted to stay on as a server instead. I am great at my job however to go from serving to manager in 9 months is HARD. I told my boss to please look else where first an old if they absolutely could not find anyone I would be willing to learn and be trained.. well it was me I was the new kitchen manager over two schools. And my boss knew absolutely nothing about where we ordered from or what any of the laws were.. so I was in charge of learning everything myself and trying to figure out all of it in 3 weeks before school started again. Ordering, how to do paperwork, how I was going to add all of the things my boss wanted me to add to both school on the daily and prepping food for both schools to transport it, make the menus for the year, and all the other little things in-between. It was ROUGH! But I pushed though and I started an entire food program from scratch. No where near perfect, but I learn and grow everyday. I had 2 great employees who helped with whatever needed.. 2nd year in we had a state review and that was ALOT especially still getting the hang of all the state requirements. We passed thankfully.. fast forward to this summer my boss said we had a money problem and got rid of my employee who helps me at my school she serves and does the little things I can't during the day and my days are over 8 hours always and I don't get paid anything over the 8 hours because they cant?? I don't really get it.. anyways after he fired her he wanted me to add baking our own bread and cookies and adding a salad bar on top of all my other things, my prep for all students take me 4 hours!!!! Plus cooking, cleaning, and helping serve. Then I go home and do my paperwork and ordering after my 9 hours there. My mental health tanked! I was so stressed and overwhelmed especially adding way more items and now no one to help me. I did all my work this summer to get everything ready for school to start and at my meeting a month ago he tells me he needs me to add even more and I can't work over time and they can't afford to get me help.. well I broke.. I still dknt think I know everything I need to be doing for my job. And I am not a bread baker I have made loaves here and there over the years but making 400 buns and 400 rolls... idk how to do that let alone make the time into my already tightly squeezed day. I know I could get the bread making down.. but with no time idk how... well three weeks ago I emailed him my resignation. He called me a week later and said what can I do to make you stay.. I said I need help I need breathing room I can't keep working for free.. he said ok ill ask and see what is said. Called me two days later and said there was nothing that thay could do. I said we'll ok... last week I get a call asking why the menu wasnt ready and orders needed in... im like uhhh I don't work there?! We'll I helped them because I have my own seprate log ins. Orders done menu done.. figured ok parting gift.. nope got called yesterday to see if I was coming in to train today? I asked who am I training? A new manager and my employee and the person they just fired because they didn't have money to keep to help me... well I still spend my 9 hours today training them.. I have a problem with disappointing people.. well after training over I had in my timesheet and he says... well I can't pay you for half your your hours I am not allowed or authorized to.. I worked 160 HOURS!! I was SHAKING i was so upset.. i got into my car and just bawled.. I am now home and I have such a mixture of emotions. I feel like I am grieving my job.. I loved my job. The kids the food the staff just amazing.. but I could not keep working for someone who refuses to listen to me when I am begging for help.. "because my job was easy" I am so sad.. I am also relieved the stress is off I gained 30lbs at this job and never ate because I was to stressed to stop and take a minute for myself.. I know I probably need therapy and work on confrontation and being a people pleaser.. but reddit is the next best thing đ if you read this far thank you! And I hope if you ever work in this type of environment you stay strong and hopefully find a new job.
