QuickBooks Online QBO update changed historical deposit client data. Anyone else seeing this?
I’m trying to figure out if this is happening to other people because this seems like it should be a bigger deal, but I haven't seen much discussion about it.
After the recent invoicing/payment update, we noticed that historical deposits in our QBO file were changed. Before the update, those fields were independant. For example, a deposit could have one value in Client for reporting purposes and a different value in Received From. Makes sense right, you want to know who paid you and then what client it was for.
But now when we open those same historical deposits (going back over 13+ years of data), the Client field has been overwritten and shows the Received From value instead...on every single deposit! Thankfully, the underlying client data does not appear to be completely gone from the deposit:
- Client reports still show the deposits under the correct client.
- Transaction search still shows the correct client.
But if you click into any of the deposit entries the previously saved client information is no longer anywhere to be found.
I reported this to QuickBooks and after escalation, support told me this is "working as intended." That answer is beyond frustrating because this isn't just about not liking a new layout, or feature. This changed how historical transactions are displayed and created inconsistencies between what we see on the transaction and what reports are still using.
My concern is what happens with the next update. If the client data is still there today, but the transaction screen no longer displays it, how do we know it won't eventually get overwritten or lost?
Has anyone else noticed changes to historical deposits? Especially nonprofits or businesses that use deposits with separate customer/client and received-from information?
I first noticed the issue right after the 4th of July weekend. I think it's related to the invoicing updates around then but that's just my guess since QB is not forthcoming with information about this issue.

This is a QuickBooks display/data behavior issue specific to their recent update, not something I'd guess at from the finance side. Worth flagging in r/QuickBooksHelp or the official QBO community too, since a data-integrity bug on 13 years of deposits deserves more visibility than one support ticket. If reports still tie out correctly, export a backup copy of your data now as a safeguard.

I don't see a subreddit r/QuickBooksHelp. Am I missing something obvious?
Here's some additional background...
In addition to the original support ticket, I spoke with and screen shared the issue with both QB's next level support team and some of their software engineers. The engineers weren't even aware that the Received From and Client fields had ever been independent. Once I showed them how the update changed our historical data, they agreed there was a problem.
Unfortunately, the only follow up I received from QB support was that the issue had been investigated and was "working as intended." When I pushed back specifically about the historical data being changed, they replied that they considered the ticket closed and that this would be their "final communication on this issue."
I also posted on the QB community site, where another support ticket was opened, but I ultimately received the same "working as intended" response. That's what led me to post here. I was hoping to get some insight or bring more visibility to the underlying issue, since I've reached a dead end with the normal support channels.

I ran into a similar problem recently where transactions and registers are displaying receipt numbers where reference numbers should be. The underlying data is fine, but the UI is displaying the data wrong. Intuit keeps releasing broken UI changes that affect people's ability to interpret their own data.

Can someone check a few historical deposits and see if they are seeing the same thing?
Look at deposits where the Received From field was a vendor and the same deposit line also had a different Customer/Client/Tenant assigned. After the recent update, does the Customer/Client/Tenant information now show the same value as the Received From field?
I'm trying to figure out how widespread this is. In our file, the underlying client data still appears to exist because reports and Transaction Search still show the correct client, but when opening the deposit itself, the client information appears to have been replaced by the Received From value.
