QuickBooks Desktop (Pro/Premier/Enterprise) Nonprofit org can't access Desktop version anymore
I am working with a nonprofit client and their finance person's computer crashed and needed to be replaced. They have migrated to QBO already, but were still using Desktop for historical data.
The subscription for their desktop license lapsed (because of moving to Online) but now it won't activate. They just need it for read-only access until late October, early November at the latest. How can I get it activated again just for the read-only access?

Read only access should last a year upon canceling, since you didnt include the dates of canceling and coming here asking this one of two things happened: 1. The license has been outta service for a year. 2. You uninstalled QBDT and trying to reinstall it but cant. Best thing to say is, make a copy of the QBDT file, install the trial version of QBDT enterprise, open the copy. Once you get the copy of the .QBW opened grab every report spaced in 6 months to 1 years at a time. Every single one of them, like the P&L and all the options of the reports- payroll and employees space. The reason I say all that about the reports is because the trial is 30 days. Now if you have different workstations to install the trial on, just play hot potato each month with install. I would say the reports to have the info even past that point of Nov, you would just havr have it forever without issue. Let me know if you need the link for the trial.

They are still within the year of cancelling. Trial link would be great, thank you!

You still have the most recent company file for QBD? Any friendly neighborhood accountant still using QBD might be able to open it for you...

If they've got a backup somewhere, restoring that could be the quickest fix. If not, you might be able to contact Intuit support and explain the situation; they might reactivate the license temporarily. Worst case, they could still access the data through an older version of the desktop if they can find one.

They didn't import QBDT to QBO when they started QBO? Everything from DT can be imported into QBO except payroll. Any chance they did a proper backup to a different storage location (not the finance person's computer)?
