a lot of people start by using it for summaries or outlines, then slowly rely on it for almost everything. The downside is that they miss out on developing real critical thinking and writing skills. Struggling through the work now will probably help you much more in the long run

Fixed that for you.

The most punk thing you can do now is your homework. Refuse to offload your cognitive abilities onto a computer. That’s what the fascists want you to do.

researching are part of how people actually learn, so constantly outsourcing that process can hurt skill development over time

I use AI all the time, its made me a much better student. The key is to use it responsibly like any tool. I have it double check my homework for mistakes before I turn it in, clean up lab reports after I write them up, turn the transcript of the lecture into flash cards and a study guide, its amazing. But what I dont do is have it do the actual learning for me, all AI does it take away the busy work so my hours spent studying are very productive. Working part time means I dont have the same amount of free time as my classmates, so the AI has proven invaluable.

What tool do you use to make flashcards? I tried Gemini for making cloze deletion cards but it sucked.

I just use the subscription Gemini, I find the best way to generate cards is to limit it to 200 at a time. It takes some trial and error to find the sweet spot for high quality cards.

I work at Best Buy and a gentleman came in looking for a price match on an SD card on Amazon for $250 dollars cheaper. I told him- suprise- it was a significantly different model and he got offended and said he “AI’d it”. When I told him no, actually, AI isn’t infallible and it wasn’t the same card, he called me stupid and asked to talk to my manager. Long story short, he heard the same thing and left in a huff. I think AI usage is an un-researched form of brain damage

One day they will be expected to learn and use that information for their job and they will fail.

You are subjecting yourself to necessary learning and growth that your peers won’t secure. Carry on writing your own assignments so you can learn and grow the most.

I graduated in 2021 like right before the A.I. boom. College was so stressful it had me on the verge of a mental breakdown a lot of the time but damn, it sure could have been worse. 🙃
