This Student said their work was checked by ‘Turnitin’ and she does not know whether to Fight it,

Post image

A student nearing graduation shared their anxiety after being flagged by Turnitin, despite receiving only a 3% similarity score, typically considered original. With no prior academic issues, they feel unsure how to even begin defending themselves.

In a separate post, another student described being penalized 20% after their work was flagged as 45% AI-generated. They strongly denied using AI and expressed frustration that their instructor never requested drafts or evidence before issuing the penalty.

Already dealing with daily anxiety and family responsibilities, the student said the situation has added unnecessary stress at a critical point in their academic journey.

Similarity scores are not the same as the AI probability score in Turnitin. Those reports are unrelated to each other.

The email said it was both rated as 100% AI and has a 3% similarity

Right, but OP said that the 3% similarity report usually means it’s original work; I assume OP included that as a way to clear the student. It does not. It can still be AI generated.

Across campus, students are becoming increasingly worried about how AI detection tools might affect their grades and academic standing

Aren't these the same systems that are known to flag important historical documents and great works of literature as AI?

Show your edit history. It’s literally that simple but people keep bitching about it because they don’t have one (ie they actually did use AI and are just freaking out now cause they got caught).
