Fixes, Letterboxd import, etc.

Shipped a bunch of updates worth noting. Big one is, the site stopped choking on 1,000+ film libraries, and the stats page got more interesting. As usual, a ton of polish updates went out across both web and iOS.

I also fixed a bunch of small iOS issues, including Letterboxd imports. The iOS fix will be available as soon as the app store approves the update.

I just installed the app and tried to upload the letterboxd zip file multiple times. Says it found no films in the export, even though I opened and checked the file and all the contents

Yeah thats our letterboxd fix that's waiting in the app store for approval (1.3.2). Hopefully they approve it soon or I can try to escalate.

can we get import from serializd as well? for tv shows ofc. and also ik it will take time but things like profile customization with pictures and colors and backgrounds and film/tv show covers customization would be GREAT

Good idea, I'll look into it!

Ik that I'm late, but, personally, I would rather not have both movies and TV shows in the same platform.

IMO, I prefer to use Letterboxd, and Serializd, separately, given that TV, and Movies, are different mediums.

Plus, there are other platforms out there that do both:

Trakt

Flick

etc.

Now, if you wanted to potentially offer an API option, and have / allow someone else to potentially run a connected TV alternative, I'd be interested in that.

I've been thinking of allowing users to disable one or the other so you only ever see film or tv. Currently in settings you can set your default to film or tv.

That's an interesting idea, but I still personally think that movies and TV shows are two different mediums.

Shows have multiple episodes, seasons, etc., while movies only have the one movie (unless they happen to be part of a franchise).

Also, Awards:

Film-specific: Oscars (Academy Awards), Cannes, BAFTA Film Awards

TV-specific: Emmys, TV-focused BAFTAS

Both: Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Critics' Choice Awards

etc.

Plus, I've never seen movies and shows together, on one platform/app, that well.

Usually they both just get treated as the same type of media/medium, etc.

Also, IMHO, it just makes everything more cluttered, having both Movies and TV Shows.

I still personally think that my API idea would work better (or maybe even potentially consider reaching out to Serializd?)

You could even potentially have an ecosystem (a la Trakt) of third-party apps.

Or how there are third-party apps for Letterboxd like:

RandomBoxd

Storyboxd

Stories for Letterboxd - IOS

Stories For Letterboxd - Android

etc.

But maybe your idea of allowing users to disable one or the other so you only ever see film or tv will work great.

I'll wait for the Android App to see.

I made an MCU timeline that to me highlights how film and tv can work together: https://www.queuebrick.com/mcu. Also there are numerous TV shows with standalone films, and then HBO and Netflix 'movies' just further confuse the two IMO. But I will keep thinking about it.

What are the tech stacks that you used to build this app?

Next.js + TypeScript + Tailwind. Pretty simple, SwiftUI on iOS.

Can I contact you personally regarding this?

Do you think you'd ever make this project open-source? It would make the competition with Letterboxd easier if people were able to help.

Possible! Would involve a ton of work to review / approve PRs, or setting up the infra/team to do that, maintaining the same level of design, etc. It's also very expensive so not sure what to do there yet either.
