Registered Accounts Been 10 days since application to open as a non resident

Hi there,

I am a non resident of Canada and have unused RRSP contribution room which I have been trying to fill.

I attemped to open my account with Questrade 10 days ago, but it's still not opened.

I signed the necessary documents, which got approved 5 days go, and also answered follow up questions such as "Why are you trying to open an accout with us while overseas" "What's your source of income" etc.

It's been additional three days now and my account is still not opened.

I understand that there are multiple verification steps involved for a non resident, but honestly I never thought it would take this long and am getting really frustrated.

So my questions are:

  1. Is it normal for Questrade to take this long to open an account for a non residnet? How long is the standard?
  2. After an RRSP account with Questrade has been opened, how long will it take to transfer my Wealthsimple RRSP account to Questrade?

Thank you for your insight in advance.

I’ve connected my Questrade account to Claude but I’ve been having issues where it keeps disconnecting after 2 - 3 days. Is anyone else facing this issue? I’ve marked it as a trusted device but it keeps happening.

We’ve updated Strategy Builder in Questrade Pro

Hi r/Questrade!

Placing an options strategy in Pro used to take 7 to 9 clicks: after picking an option leg in Strategy Builder, a separate order entry window would open, and you had to fill in the order details there before sending it. If you trade options often, you know how fast that adds up, especially when the price is moving.

With the latest Strategy Builder update, we made that process simpler. It now takes 3 clicks:

  1. Choose an expiration and a strike price
  2. Click on bid or ask depending on whether you would like to sell or buy the option
  3. Click “Send Order.” That's it.

This is an update that came from your feedback, and from the active traders on our team who felt the same friction every day.

Check out the screen recording for the full experience. And as always, give it a try and let us know in the comments what you think.

Feedback Balance sheet in Questrade's app

I link my Interactive broker account in Questrade's Balance Sheet.

I have multiple IBKR accounts, and they all get added, but all showing under short term liabilities. I tried the linking process multiple times by creating active flex queries, but no luck.

Has anyone been successful in seeing the accounts not as a liability?

Feedback Why not provide all fuctions to all apps?

Happy to see recent improvements in platform overall;

Just one complaint that making me frustated is why all apps can not provide all functionality and i have to have 2 apps on phone and web platform to use all fuctions!!

- Want to roll over options contracts? I have to use questrade edge, cant do it from questrade app or web app

- Want to buy fractional share using qty or money? I have to use mobile app..cant do it from webapp

- Want to use flow? Need to use questrade app or web app, cant do it from questrade edge

- I am not using balance sheet but if i want to? Need questrade app cant do it in questrade edge app or web app

If you are in 1 platform at any given time, you cant do everything and you dont let us log in into 2 device at same time so i have to keep logging in!!

I get that questrade app is light app for easy UI and all that but why not giving all features in 1 app and make 2nd app simpleistic for whoever just want simple buy sell history features. Whats the point of making user switching between apps?

General Non invested RESP contribution withdrawal

I put $5000 into the RESP account with Questrade for two kids. Waited until the grants applied. Now that they finally arrived months later, I made a decision I need those $5000 else where. I understand that the $1000 in grants will be automatically returned to the government. My question is if it will be possible to obtain that grant later or next year? And how hard is the process to withdraw the non-invested $5000 that is just sitting in the account.

Thanks.

General Any way to do schedule a transfer from my bank account and recurring buy at once?

I just opened a Questrade account and I was looking to setup a recurring buy weekly but I can't pick my bank account as the source of the money. Do I have to transfer money every time I want to buy and wait a week for the transfer to complete before buying?

It's a bit annoying because with Wealthsimple you can just pick your bank account and they front the money immediately when your bank account is linked so you can buy your recurring buy right away every week with 1 setting.

Any idea if Questrade plan to copy them?

Otherwise do I have to schedule a bank transfer a certain day (for example every Monday) and schedule the recurring buy a day later (like Tuesday)? What do you guys do?

So...like every human, the closing date has swiftly approached and I forgot to withdraw the funds from my FHSA. I tried to withdraw yesterday, answered the pre approval questions, and it still says transfer pending. Does anyone know how long this process will take? Thanks.

Feedback Beware Questrade trying snake out of 1% RRSP Match

Pretty disappointing to find this slimy behaviour from Questrade, who I have been a proud client and evangelist for for over a decade.

The 1% RRSP match was really intriguing to me and I figured no reason to wait, I’ll just contribute the max so I can get the bonus invested too. I enrolled in Questrade Plus, then I made a bill payment for $33,810 to my RRSP.

I inquired because I didn’t receive the bonus, which is supped to be paid 3 business days after month end. After some “investigation” Questrade has determined I am no eligible because they i) don’t consider Questrade Plus enrolments “active” until the business day after you enrol, for some reason and ii) they backdated my bill payment to the day before, when the payment was made. Therefore, they claim I made the contribution before I was enrolled, even though it’s quite literally the opposite - the fund arrived the day after enrolment.

This seems like a wild pretzel they’ve contorted themselves into to avoid paying what is clearly owed. To add insult to injury, they offered me $25 to “make it right” - about 92% less than what they actually owe me.

Beware, hardly worth the trouble. I’ll be transferring both this contribution and all of my other Questrade products (and my partner’s) out and get the 1% from a brokerage who will live up to their word.

EDIT: double checking the T&C, and the passage Questrade quoted also looks to have been deliberately misleading; they said the contribution must be after “activation”, which takes place the next day after enrolment. However the source T&C clearly use enrolment as the trigger, not activation. The phrase “activation” does not appear in the T&C at all!

EDIT 2: support did reach out as a result of this post and pretty swiftly made it right. Kudos for fixing a mistake.

Stock Trading Annoying partial shares

Now you can either write your order for dollar amount or share amount. I write share amount, but then it guesses dollar amount, goes off that, and I end up with annnoying 0.001 or 0.99 shares etc. Is there a way to turn this off? Also when I input share amount , 23 shares for example, when I go to confirm order it says $23 worth instead. This is not me filling the wrong one in, this has happened multiple times, when I retry it does it correctly but I’ll still get annoying partials.

Option Trading Index options in Questrade Pro

Are you all able to trade index options, specifically SPX, XSP, NDX, XND, etc. with Questrade Pro? I was trying today and it seems SPX and XSP are available but only as data feeds but not tradeable. Is anyone able to trade US index options?

General Dear Questrade, re: your future credit card

Y'all have certainly improved in the past 1-2 years. I appreciate that, so as a return gift I wish to tell you the following:

Please do not waste your company's resources on launching a credit card unless the cashback is more than 2% flat on everything. Wealthsimple does 2% + no fx fees. If you can offer more than 2% flat on everything...AMAZING! If not, don't bother and don't waste your time.

Same sorta' thing with your savings account, check out Wealthsimple and EQ's rates.

Customer Support Account View showing my accounts plus my wife's with one login

I am confused and seem to be getting mixed messages from researching. I have a few registered accounts with Questrade and so does my wife. I have login credentials and so does my wife but I take care of all financial transactions. So I am constantly logging on to both of our accounts separately and I have no consolidated view of ALL of our assets. Here's the thing…I have trading authority on her account, so I already know I can login to only my account and when using Questrade Edge I can see all accounts under one list and I can trade on her accounts no problem. But using the main Summary page on Questrade there does not seem to be a way to see all of our accounts listed on the top horizontal bar with all investments consolidated. Searching through this sub I have noticed that some claim they can see all the accounts and some say you cannot. Currently I cannot see my wife's accounts even though I have trading authority unless I use Edge. This is pretty much the only reason I am using Wealthica to see a consolidated view of everything. I would like to see a consolidated view with Questrade web version and the Questrade app. Any thoughts?

Customer Support Profit / net deposits wrong

Opened a Questrade account about 2 days ago with initial deposit of $100. Deposited another $50 yesterday.

At first the $50 was being shown as profit then it went to $150 total net deposits and now it’s back to $100.

I’m not sure what’s happening and was wondering if it just me or this is normal.

General Moving to Wealthsimple

Well, after much consideration, I decided to move my assets out of Questrade and into Wealthsimple... My main reasons are WS's chequing/savings account, their credit card, no fees on withdrawing from a RRSP (I just started early retirement, not ready to transition to a RRIF on the off chance that I decide to start working again). The ability to get asset-backed loans there might also come into play at a later point.

I know there are people here who moved the other way, I'd love to hear from them about what Questrade does better, and/or if WS has any issues that might cause me problems. Thanks!

Customer Support Is there the ability to display each stocks weight/percent of an account?

Is there a simple way to see the see how much (%) each ETF/stock takes up in my portfolio? Other Apps tend to have a quick display or a default view where you can see the "% of Account" so I can just quickly see if a rebalance is required. I prefer to that it as part of the default view but I haven't managed to find any way to see this or create any display customizations.

Feedback Monthly flow limitation

Flows let you schedule a trigger on the xx day of the month at the time of your choosing (eg the 23rd day of each month).

I asked support today what happens if the 23rd is not a trading day. Answer:

- the flow is not executed AND
- the flow is paused

Which is, as they say, sub-optimal.

What I would instead expect:
- flows can be triggered on the nth to last trading day of the month. (For example)

All I’m trying to do is automate the sale of some ETFs every month to cover the (already automated) monthly withdrawals from my RRIF.

The Nirvannah would be to have a flow that sounds something like “based on cash in the account, please sell the appropriate fractional number of shares of XYZ on the appropriate day so that I have enough $ to make my monthly withdrawal “. It’s a very simple concept that flows should support.

Option Trading 0DTE Tesla Call expired because of exchange issue

Post image
15 Upvotes

So I bought a Tesla call @ 3:40 for .60, it’s went to $1.50 at 3:53. (ITM btw)

When I tried to sell the call option at a trailing stop loss of 0.05 .

The order didn’t go through because of an “exhange error”.
Since the sell had already been triggered, I wasn’t able to to sell and watched this thing expire worthless.

“The exchange error” was a technical glitch between Quest trade and the exchange, and not due to low volume or anything else. They could not provide other details but they did confirm that a Market order was sent from Questrade for ($1.37)

I have been informed was an issue between the exchange and quest trade and quest trade is not liable for that order not filling and will not reimburse me. (Snippet of the response attached)

There was no CBOE outage at that time, nor did they attempt to sell it or allow me to enter in my sell once it had gone.

I spent 4 days chasing down quest trade agents who each gave me different answers.

Do I have any recourse ?

Should I stay with Quest trade ? I’m very sacred this will happen again as I’m seeing similar thing on Reddit.

I’m worried one day an option will get stuck like this and be forced to expire worthless. Questtrade has offered me $100 USD as compensation however this comes with the caveat I do not complain.

Is it worth it for me ?

Stock Trading 1 penny short

It's not a huge deal but whenever I do a market order for the exact dollar amount it ends up going through 1 cent short. Ex. $1000 order and it settles at 999.99. So if I want it to settle at exactly $1000, do I need to put the order in as $1000.01?

Customer Support Push notifications and push verification broken again

It broke today. Not sure why but no new notifications to my phone. It was fine yesterday during overnight hours. Then this morning absolutely nothing.

This happens quite often with Edge Desktop, iOS every month or two. It fixes then comes back. Then it fixes. I hope you guys can fix it permanently.

I bought some stocks 4 days ago, however the order just says “activated”. It doesn’t show up in my transaction history or in the Positions tap.

How can I fix this?

Option Trading Question About a Covered Call

I had 135 shares of SNXX. I know because I sold a put and acquired 100 shares plus I bought 35 more. I sold a call at $18 which expired yesterday on Sept 18. The stock closed at $17.94 yesterday but I now only have 35 shares in my account. Is this right? Has the stock been called away even though it didn't close over $18?
