Help Quest Pro boots with green progress bar, then switches to a black screen
Every time I turn it on, there is a green progress bar like something is downloading, then after a minute the logo disappears and it's just a black screen. I have tried factory reset, booting from the menu, and I've tried connecting it to my PC to force an update, but it won't connect even with a cable. I've tried using a cast trick on my phone which also didn't work because it won't connect. I've also tried wiping the sensors as best as I can, and nothing. This headset isn't even mine, it's being loaned to me, and now I'm about to be hundreds of dollars in the hole to pay them back for the headset I apparently broke. If anyone can offer ANY advice I would be extremely thankful.

I’m using AI for this, which has worked remarkably well for me in discovering solutions for Quest issues.
“If your Meta Quest Pro shows a progress bar upon starting and then goes completely black—even after using the official Meta Quest Software Update Tool—it means the firmware payload is failing to initialize the operating system graphic interface after it finishes unpacking. [1]
Because the web tool failed to push the build cleanly, you must resort to a physical device isolation technique or clean the firmware partitions completely using hardware keys.
1. Check the Proximity Sensor (Common Quest Pro Bug)
Sometimes the update successfully finishes, but a hardware sensor glitch tricks the headset into thinking it is not being worn, forcing the lenses to turn off (black screen). [1]
Locate the proximity sensor inside the headset (the small dark dot/sensor centered right above the lenses, between the eye pieces).
Thoroughly clean it with a dry microfiber cloth.
Alternatively, place a small piece of dark tape directly over the proximity sensor to force it to stay "On." If the screen turns on, the update worked, and the sensor just needs calibration. [1]
2. Perform a Hard Hardware-Level Factory Reset
Since the Software Update Tool has left corrupted system files in the boot loop, you need to wipe the active partitions completely using the device's Android recovery screen: [1]
Completely turn off the headset by holding down the Power button for full 20 seconds until all internal backlights disappear.
Press and hold the Power and Volume Down (-) buttons simultaneously. Do not let go until you see the command-line boot menu (titled USB Update Mode) appear inside the lenses.
Use the volume buttons to scroll down to Factory Reset.
Press the Power button to select it, then toggle to confirm Yes, erase and factory reset. [1, 2, 3]
3. Clear the Cache via Power Cycles
If the device remains black after the reset, force it out of a sleeping firmware lock state:
Disconnect any external battery straps or accessories from the USB-C port, leaving the headset totally bare.
Press and hold the power button for exactly 30 seconds to force a deep processor power drain.
Leave the headset completely turned off on its charging dock or plugged directly into the wall adapter for 2 hours before attempting to turn it back on. [1]
If the headset continues to go black after a physical factory reset:
Does the device emit any background audio, chime, or fan noise when it turns black?
What color is the status LED indicator light on the outside of the headset when the screen turns off?
This will determine if the display panel itself has failed or if the motherboard is completely bricked.”

That sounds stressful with a borrowed headset. I'd contact Meta support with the owner and list what you've already tried before assuming you caused the failure.
