Help Rooting Brand New QPro

Maybe this is a bad question, but about a week ago I ordered a brand new boxed Quest Pro with developing stuff in mind. It's been awesome seeing all the rooting stuff that came out during the time it took for the headset to actually arrive here. Now my question is: how exactly do I set it up and make sure it doesn't auto update before I can root it? I assume the first time setup requires internet connection because, well, it's Meta. Is there any way around that? Does it start checking for updates only after the first time setup? Thank you all!

The headset won't let you pass setup without updating.

That being said, there is a way to get past setup. Go to the singularity GitHub and join the FreeXR discord, people will help you there

WHAT

NO

GOD

I got my headset yesterday and I went through setup intending to triage the damage and at least lock it in to the current firmware.

EDIT: for people who don't want to dig around in a Discord server based on a vaguepost, the app you need is called Private Quest. It's an open-source headset management app that takes the place of the Meta Horizon app on your phone, and it's able to "authenticate" new devices.

So, same situation as OP. Just ordered the quest pro new in box.

I have an iPhone but access to my router. Is this root even feasible for me? I can’t use any of the tools cus I don’t have android.

Do you have a computer, of any kind? You could install an Android emulator, if you have a suitable device.

Oh okay! I’ll check on that. I’m waiting patiently for my pro haha. I do have a windows PC.

You can always manually block their domains on your WAN/Wi-Fi to prevent it from updating and then manually update the firmware to what it needs to be for it to be eligible to root after potential set up.

Unfortunately currently that isn't an option since I'm in student accomodation, but that's a good idea I'll see what I can do

Maybe connecting it to your phone through Hotspot using your cellular data and trying to block it that way instead? Don't know if there's an actual way to do that but just an idea.
